Supporting Children and Families Facing Critical Illness

There With Care

4949 N. Broadway, Suite 124 Boulder, CO 80304

303-447-CARE (2273)

Our mission is to provide a range of practical services for children and families facing critical illness in order to ease the burden of life’s day-to-day obligations during a medical crisis. We do this by building strong relationships with local hospitals, business owners, professionals, and community volunteers, who share in the care of the entire family during emotionally, financially, and physically challenging times.

Our Inspiration

What Inspires Us?

A few years ago, while working on the set of the Harry Potter films, Paula DuPre’ Pesmen had the privilege of meeting some very special children and their families during their wish visits.  Four of these children, Sam Patterson, Jay Barnett, Ellie Coombes and Sonia Scaramella all shared the love for Harry Potter and sadly they also shared a diagnosis of a terminal illness.  Moved by the beautiful spirits of these four children and their courageous battles, Paula and her four special co-founders began There With Care.  Evolved from her relationships with Sam, Jay, Ellie and Sonia and their families, each of the programs that There With Care now offers is inspired by these children and the services which could have lightened the burden on their families.

Paula, who in 2001 had returned to film making after caring for her husband Curt through his diagnosis, treatment and recover from advanced colon cancer, was keenly aware of the challenges facing families with cancer.  Upon her return, a misdirected call to her phone led to a wish being granted for a child losing her battle with leukemia.  That call  opened the door to more than 65 families in the next 2 years who would come and enjoy their child’s wish to visit the cast and sets of the Potter films.  Her experience with hosting the “wish kids” and their families opened her eyes and heart to the acute difficulties confronting families in medical crisis – from fulfilling life’s basic day-to-day obligations to the heightened isolation created when friends or family don’t know what to say or do.

There With Care is the link between those who want to help and those who need it.  The lives of Sam, Jay, Ellie and Sonia were taken early by a devastating disease.  But their spirits, energy and enthusiasm for life live on in There With Care.  The entire organization is a tribute to their lives.
