Geeky Gadgets for the Coldest Winter Days
Geeks don't hibernate! Some don't pay their gas bills :P After reading through GeekSugar.com I found a lot of great ideas for winter geekery. Some keep you warm, others make it more convenient to use our favorite gadgets and others are just awesome!
Dot Gloves for iPhone users
I recently joined the “I have an iPhone” club and I’m not going to lie, I was worried about using this during the winter months. Living in Chicago, I’ve learned that removing gloves to access my phone is a HUGE mistake. So when I found the Dot Gloves I got a warm and giddy feeling inside. My small fingers will remain warm while I can update my Twitter friends about the lady who just ate it on the stairs.
Warm Hands. Smudge-free screens. Those are two phrases that make me happy! You can purchase the knit gloves for $15 or the wool for $20. They’re not located in stores yet, but be sure to check the website for updates.
USB Heated Gloves
If your apartment is as cold as mine, you’ll be happy you found these. Often when working at the computer I notice how cold my hands get. Did you know that it’s difficult to type with ice cold hands? True story.
I’ve thought about typing in front of an open oven to warm up my hands, but I think these gloves might be a bit safer!
USB 'Hot Cushion'
So this kind of scares me. I’m surprised by how much that little USB port can power! Cold hands are understandable, but if you’re in your office, what’s the likely hood of your butt being cold?
It seems like these are only available in Japan right now.
USB Heating Blanket
I love this! It looks more fashionable than the Slanket. It can be worn as a cape, and who wouldn’t absolutely love that? Get two and throw one around your shoulders and one over your lap!
Freehands Stretch Gloves
I love these! I have a pair of mittens just like it except they’re green and 10 times more adorable. Unfortunately I’ve developed a hole in the thumb so even when they’re on, they’re not really on. They’d make it easier to text while out and about. Honestly, I will not be pulling my iPhone out while outdoors. With my luck I’d drop it in the snow!
George Foreman USB iGrill
This might not be for everyone, but I do think the concept is awesome. The George Foreman USB iGrill conveniently connects to your home or office PC. All you do is plug this little guy into your computer and you can have a burger or two.
ThinkGeek assures interested customers that the iGrill doesn’t require any additional power source. Download recipes, enter in the type of food, weight and desired degree of doneness, and the iGrill handles the rest.
USB Mini Fridge/Heater
After cooking up a burger on your iGrill, you’ll want to wash it down with a refreshing drink right? The USB mini fridge will keep your drink nice and cold for you. Not in the mood for a cold drink? Don’t worry, the fridge will also warm up your beverages.
It takes about five minutes to warm or cool most drinks. It’s easy to install, too! Who knew your coolness status at the office only cost $32?!
USB Gas Stove Cup Warmer
Okay, so I’m one of those people who bring my hot chocolate or coffee to work, but won’t drink it because it’s too hot. By the time I remember I have it, it’s cooled to a lukewarm temp, which is way too cool. So I think this fancy USB Gas Stove Cup Warmer would come in handy to fix that problem.
PoGo Stylus
Not a fan of the Dot Gloves? TenOne Designs has created this stylus called PoGo for people with A. long nails or B. lame gloves so they can easily use their iPhone or iPod touch.
The Slanket
Well this is just embarrassing, but I think it could be one of those comfort vs. fashion purchases. The color is nice and I have a feeling that it could be very soft.
