Where to Tango in Denver and Boulder and information on milongas, classes and teachers. Tango almost died out in the 1950s even in it's countries of origin of Argentina and Uruguay "with economic depression and as the military dictatorships banned public gatherings" (wikipedia). With the fall of the dictatorships after the Falklands War and the opening in Paris of the show Tango Argentino, tango began it's revival in the 1980s'. The Denver/Boulder area has taken part in this revival with one of the largest and most active dance communities in the US. Whether you are a traditionalist or tend to the alternative style there's something for you in this area.

Some of the best teachers in the US make this area their home base.
One of your best bets for getting started in the dance. They offer beginner level series of class several times a year. They bring in well known teachers for seminars, including Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Ann in Summer, 2007. They also organize trips to Buenos Aires for ‘intensivos’ with Luciana Valle.
Alternative style? They are just plain good.
They teach widely in the United States and also at Pulpo’s Tango Week in Buenos Aires.
Join Nick & Tara in explorations of what tango is fundamentally about, moving well with your partner. Wednesday evenings at Kake’s at 8:30pm
No fuss, no muss guide to practicas and milongas in town.
Monday: Brian “el toro” Dunn and Deb unlocks the secrets of the steps. See their website for more info. Tuesday: Beginner lessons and and practica under the auspices of Tango Colorado at the Denver Turnverein. This is the largest practica in the area in terms of attendance. Mostly traditional music. Wednesday: Nick Jones teaches “Pulpo” influenced style at Kake’s in Boulder. 8:30 class followed by practica. Attracts a younger age group. Thursday: Practica at the Pearl Street Studio, Boulder under the seeing eye of Tango Colorado. Attendance can be spotty, do go if Juliet is DJ’ing. Friday: Mercury Cafe night. This is the big milonga evening for Denver. Good DJ’s. Occasionally live music; definitely go when Dan Diaz is on the bandoneon. Saturday: Milongas twice a month by Brian Dunn and Deb Sclar when they are in town. Brian has a large selection of music with some alternative, he’s an excellent DJ. Sunday: Milonga de las tres mujeres twice a month at the Avalon, Boulder. Halina provides home cooking. Great floor, great food. Music is disconcertingly jumbled, no effort at doing tanda’s. Friendly atmosphere. Remaining Sundays at the Avalon are getting filled in by Brian Dunn and Deb Sclar; see their website.
One of the largest tango festivals in the States.
Organized by Tom Stermitz.
Tango Colorado puts on a large outdoor milonga and picnic at Cheesman Park, Denver, in conjunction with these two festivals.

Err, other than this guide that is.
End Note.
If you are contemplating taking up tango, perhaps you should find a good therapist.
Sometimes it is hard to know when the dancing ends and the psychosis begins.
