Strange But Good Homemade Food Combinations

Do you make something edible that your friends stare at in disbelief? This look is usually followed by variations of the questions, "What IS that?" and "Are you really going to eat that?" You sing its praises and love it like your very own "special" child.
Some restaurant inspiration...

French Fries + Frosty
It doesn’t seem that strange now, since nearly everyone who grew up eating Wendy’s did this. Mmm.
Put Some Corn In Your Tots!
My dad is from Iowa and he grew up with this and passed it on to me. My wife thinks it’s gross, my mom thinks it’s, my friends think it’s gross, but I think it is amazing. With or without gravy, mashed tots are always better with corn.
Asparagus + Mayo
Don’t knock it till you try it! Yeah yeah yeah maybe the mayo-addition cancels out the healthiness veg. factor…
Mozzarella + Peanut Butter
Clearly, someone is weirder than me, which is always disappointing to learn. One of my favorite combinations is mozzarella + peanut butter—power lunch! Sometimes I assemble it into a sandwich on regular bread or a bagel, or go the cracker route.
The person above? It’s her birthday “cake”: pancakes, mozzarella cheese and peanut butter. I have seen it all…
Turning anything into "Pizza _______"
Pizza tacos, pizza nachos, pizza burgers. Sometimes I need a non-regular pizza pizza fix and I get the shivers just thinking of all the possibilities I haven’t even discovered in my kitchen yet.
Ramen + Tandoori Chicken Stir-Fry Sauce
I used to make this all the time in college, which is to say I made ramen in the microwave and stirred in the sauce that came out of my mini cube fridge. Delectable.
Hot Dog Eggs and Ketchup
I don’t crave this one so much, but my mom’s fam grew up poor and had to get creative in the kitchen, making something out of nothing. Their staple meat was often hot dogs when times were tough. Hence, “hot dog eggs.”
Ramen Noodle Soup + 1 Egg (or 2)
I personally like Ramen noodles with an egg in it. I know, sounds gross. But try it – it’s so filling and tastes great. It’s what got me through college.
You can also get creative and add mushrooms, shrimp, lettuce, tomatoes, and more. Also, it’s much tastier with spicy Korean ramen noodles.
B.A. Barakas Burrito plus a few other weird combos...
B.A. Barakas Burrito named after Mr. T’s character on the A-Team consists of: cinnamon, sugar, lots of butter rolled into a tortilla and baked in the microwave for 30 seconds. It’s the only thing I knew how to make growing up. I still crave them…
Also, a couple of my roommates in law school used to eat their cereal with a scoop of peanut butter in it. I thought it was weird until I tried it. It’s pretty excellent.
My friend Bubb (he’s weird) makes a peanut butter and turkey sandwich in a tortilla. Never tried it. Don’t plan on it either.
BBQ SAUCE ON ANYTHING
I like to put BBQ sauce on crackers, bread, rice cakes, you name it- melt a little cheese over the top and you’ve got a feast.
