Start your morning right! Breakfast in New York City
When I was younger breakfast used to make me sick. Literally, I would get nauseous even thinking about it, till this day I have to find the answer to why that is....? Strange. As I've gotten older, and found my DEEP love for coffee, I also found I had an even bigger love for...BREAKFAST food. All day, all the time. I eat eggs for breakfast, lunch and dinner and luckily, living in New York, you can find breakfast on every corner. Some of the best breakfasts I've had have come from small unassuming delis. So here it is breakfast lovers (and if you DON'T love it, you should START!) my breakdown on ALL THINGS BREAKFAST. ENJOY!
Mud Spot
307 east 9th st. New York, NY 11218
So regardless of the coffee Mudspot is just a really, really cool place. I love the summer garden where you can drink beer and listen to live music (please refrain from doing this in the morning) and enjoy some tasty eats. OR when you’re on the un to grab breakfast, maybe you just stop at the MUD TRUCK! My favorite spot is in the West Village (also my favorite neighborhood) on 7th Ave and West 4th st.
Dont like coffee????
Alright, though I think something must be medically wrong with you….I’ll allow you to have some JUICE instead. Though, it’s best if its fresh squeezed. None of that processed, SHIZ.
It is true that you don’t need to go here JUST for the orange juice. The breakfast is incredible too. I love the muesli….hmm…granola. BUT if you are going for a BEVERAGE order the wakeup shakeup!- Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice, Greek Yogurt, Bananas, it’s superb.

Prince Street Cafe
26 Prince St New York, NY 10304
It was definitely hard deciding which category to put this restaurant in, being that EVERYTHING on their breakfast menu is really, really, great. The frittata, the Chai latte. Great experience ALWAYS. Not to mention, a cute part of town.
EGGS
EGGS, EGGSSSSSS……Oh, I wonder how many sonnets have been written to eggs? Probably not many, maybe I should be the first to write one. I’ll get back to you on that. Eggs are great because no matter what, (unless you’re a vegan….which would be really damn hard, those people deserve a medal) you can always change it up.
Scambled, over easy, egg whites, fried, sunny side up, hardboiled……oh that many ways. It’s a creative little food isn’t it? You can spruce them up with different things, pair them with another good friend of theirs named CHEESE, and a healthier friend, VEGGIE…Whatever you choose, here are my favorite picks for eggs in the city.
What I order? The Gramercy Park Omelette- granny smith apples and white chedder chesse!! MMM.

When I first lived in New York a couple years ago, when I didn’t know anyone, didn’t have a job and seemingly no future? I knew I had one thing, The Barking Dog. Every day, my semi-broke, jobless self would walk up to the dog, take a seat at the counter and chat up the people working and dining. There were many regulars, so I started to feel the send of home living in the city. It was my ONE MEAL A DAY plan, since I had to save my cash to ya know, pay rent. But boy, was it an amazzzing meal.

PANCAKES!!!!! PASTRIES!! WAFFLES!!
Pancakes are one of those foods that I avoid simply because I know once I start eating them, I won’t want to stop. I have a bottomless pit of a stomach when it comes to eating pancakes. All kids, banana, chocolate chip, blueberry, strawberry….whatever. It’s allllll groovy. Standard golden pancakes are good too, I think they’re pretty hard to mess up.
With all of the bakeries around town it isn’t hard to satisfy that pastry sweet tooth so any of us have in the morning. I curse the heavens every time I walk by a bakery and ask why they didn’t make them less CALORICALLY CRUSHING.
But if I could bathe in maple syrup, and sleep on pillows of French toast, you bet I would.
I LOVE EVERYTHING HERE. BUT, I particularly love their brioche French toast and chocolate chunk scones. Isn’t it telling when a food has the word CHUNK in it?

Who said this isn’t the proper way to start off my day??
If you’re someone who craves a BIG OLD DANISH, or a super sweet scone, Lemon cheese puffs (yes, I love these) then this is where you need to be. Sure it may not be the HEALTHIEST breakfast choice, but hey, thats a different guide. They have the regular old breakfast muffins, breads as well…but I prefer mine with icing.

This is a brunch spot and an AWESOME one at that, how many restaurants have pear bellinis? Not many my dears, not many.

Pink Tea Cup
42 Grove St New York , NY 10014
Someone once told me this is Whoopi Goldbergs favorite spot to eat….so, being a BIG fan of The View (don’t judge me) and Ghost (am I earning points back) I headed down there. No Whoopi, but great breakfast.
Get your caffeine first!
I feel that it’s only appropriate to confess right here, right now…that am a caffeine ADDICT. No, really, I’ve never been kind before a cup of coffee, so you better hope you don’t ever run into me before I get my fix.
Coffee isn’t just a beverage, it is a lifestyle. Yeah, A LIFESTYLE. Coffee lovers love the scent, the process of making it, or buying it, the black coffee, or a day where you’re feeling fancy and throw in a little creamer. We love it all. Whether its a latte or a shot of espresso. You can always stop at a Starbucks, but in New York you don’t have to. There are PLENTY of little joints that are serving up delicious cups of Joe and with the right branding could put Starbucks straight out of business (though, I do admit that would be a tragedy.)
I’ve already confessed my love for coffee and when my equal love for the Chelsea Market meet my intense love for the magic bean, well…..we have, true love? The Bachelor kinda love. Not to mention I spent an hour making eyes at one of the baristas. Attractive baristas handling my coffee with tender loving car, what a turn on.

If it isn’t coffee let some Vitamin C give you a PEP!
mmmm Granola.
Being the hippie that I am, it’s only appropriate that Granola would be my favorite snack and very often my favorite breakfast. Or pre breakfast, it’s hard to skip eggs and bacon, and it balances out the salty/sweet.
I SAY- MAKE IT YOURSELF. It’s always the best when you make it your own, and obviously modify this recipe how you want to. Add some dried fruits, throw in some chocolate chips? whatever.
Homemade Granola
4 cups (14 oz.) rolled oats
2 cups (6.5 oz.) sweetened, shredded coconut
2 cups (6.75 oz.) sliced almonds
½ cup (4 oz.) vegetable oil
2/3 cup (7.25 oz) honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon sea salt or 1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 heaping cup (5.25 oz.) dried cherries or cranberries
candied nuts
Preheat
the oven to 350ºF. In a large bowl, combine oats, coconut and almonds
and gently stir or toss with your hands to mix well. In a small
saucepan, combine oil, honey, vanilla and salt and heat for 2 to 3
minutes, stirring to emulsify slightly. Pour over the oat mixture and
with a spatula stir until evenly coated. Spread onto a rimmed baking
sheet and bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and stir well. Return
to the oven and bake for 5 minutes. Stir well again. Repeat twice more
until the granola is golden — be very careful at the end: The coconut
will burn easily, leaving the granola with a bitter, burnt taste.
Remove pan from the oven, place on a cooling rack and leave undisturbed
until completely cool, at least one hour.
Personal Preferance
Scrambled.
Are you a benedict fan??? Order the eggs florentine. DELLISH.

Now, Nisos is one of those joints you wouldn’t expect to be amazing, but it is. Though it may not look like much from the outside, there is the perfect outdoor seating, AMAZING BRUNCH specials…I know this from eating an entire muffin basket and downing two glasses of champagne before even getting my frittata with home fries, which was, as big as my face.

Oh thank you LORD for such sweetness.
THE WINNER OF THE BREAKFAST MEDAL GOES TOOO......
NORMAS!!!
BASICALLY THE BEST ALL AROUND:
I’m not telling you anything new here when I point out the NORMA’S IS THE BEST ALLLLLLL AROUND. Everyone knows it. It is absolutely, spectacularly the best breakfast in New York City. Yeah, pretty bold statement I know.
I have yet to try to Zillion Dollar Lobster Fritatta, because I don’t like lobster and frankly, don’t have a ziilllllion dollars.
But, I do have enough to try these dishes:
The Wazza Waffles, with fruit on top and fruit on the inside….then, the best part, the BRULEEEEEE TOPPING. It’s basically desseert.
Mango-papaya cinnamon crepes. ?! Original and kind to the tastebuds.
annnnd the Breakfast Quesadilla.
You really just CANNOT go wrong choosing anything from here. Its true!
