Guide Spud's View On The Superbowl 2009
A Spuds Perspective On The Game Of The Year, Super Bowl 2009 and Commercials.
Super Bowl 2009
Every year I get excited about the Super Bowl! It doesn’t matter which teams are in it, where it’s played, artificial turf or grass. It’s the Super Bowl! A national orgy of over eating, screaming, yelling, drinking, betting, fighting, just like Christmas or Thanksgiving. This tradition has been going on for decades separating and reuniting families and friends depending on team affiliations, a Civil War of pigskin, brother against brother, grandmother against grand daughter.
This years contest pitted the colorful birds of Arizona, formerly St. Louis quarterbacked by Curt Warner formerly of St. Louis, against the Steelers of Pittsburgh quarterbacked by Ben Alphabetaburger.
The fans, dressed in primal battle gear assembled before the contest to get their “Game Face” on.
Getting their game faces on the fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals get ready to scream their lungs out in support of their team.
The Game
This was probably the best Super Bowl I have ever watched. The battle between Fitzgerald and Polamalu, was like watching two lions fighting for control of pride! Their black manes flying as they angled for positions that culminated in vertigo inducing, bone cracking collisions unseen except on Animal Planet.
Both Fitzgerald of the Cardinals and Holmes of the Steelers had amazing games. Fitzgerald at times gazelle like in his leaping above the defense to outdistance the defense or catching a pass in the middle and outrunning the defense. Holmes performance took a page from swan lake or Lynn Swann with his timed routes and tippy toe control.
The defensed were well matched, with the Steelers looking at times like the Raiders of old with thuggery and brutality. Punching a guy in the helmet, Really!? Other than the penitentiary yard behavior the game was intense no matter who had the ball. A nail biter to the end, I nearly chewed off one of my three fingertips.
In the end Pittsburgh prevailed with a forced fumble with 5 seconds left to play which left them only to humbly take a knee and the Lombardi Tropy for the record 6th time.
Mom and Dad didn’t tell me they were going to be in this years selection of commercials! I had to call them and ask! What jokers! They never did find Mom’s mouth and she made Dad find the nearest toy store to get her one. He finally had to take his ears off she was sooo angry. Well that’s mom for you.
Ah to be in the Super Bowl and get the ball on a long catch unopposed, racing toward the goal line!
Steelers Safety [Cone]
Straight from the mouth of Steelers Safety [Cone]:
“I was a little perturbed when that holding call handed a “Safety” to the other team. Because all this time I was thinking that I would only be HELPING my team, the Steelers. That call gives me a bad name!"
Nonetheless, we both did our Terrible Towel dances in the end.
