Spaceland: Quintessential Silverlake

Share on StumbleUpon Add to del.icio.us Share on Facebook

Spaceland is one of the clubs in Silverlake that makes Silverlake cool. This is the club that first brought bands such as The Shins, Arctic Monkeys, Snow Patrol, Jet, The Decemberists and many others to LA. If you've never been to Spaceland drop by Monday night for their free shows. Silversun Pickups, Sea Wolf, Rilo Kiley and The Little Ones have played there for free. Wednesday night has a UK flavor thanks to Indie 103 Club NME Night. NME is short for New Musical Express which is a pop music mag in the UK. If you're into English bands then this is your night. You can catch English talent such as The Kooks, The Young Knives, Fujiya and Miyagi and many others. DJs are also in the house spinning Brit pop, rock, indie, punk and electro tracks. Hipsters are aplenty at this club which recently celebrated its 13th birthday in March of 2008. Parking could be tough so just valet it. Blushing Whale found a secret spot but isn't telling because you'll take it :)

Love that curtain

Blushing Whale loves Spaceland because they feature pure indie LA bands such as The Ex Detectives. The sound system of the club is also pretty frickin’ good. And that funky blue and silver curtain is cool. (All photos shot by Whale)
