South Street Eats-Philadelphia

A block-A restaurant-A lot of ways to fill your belly.

South Street

Spending a day strolling down South Street ain’t half bad. I’ve done it.  You’ve done it.  Those people driving through Philadelphia on their way to somewhere else have done it (crazy kids, always wanting to see Condom Kingdom in person).  Strolling and shopping makes one hungry.  But how does one choose?  Well, lucky for one(s) this is a guide about that very question.

Let's start at the very beginning...

…it’s a very good place to start.  Get some great ideas for your three squares (and I’m not talking about playground games)!

Mates, this restaurant is The Ants Pants

I said, “Do you speak-a my language?”He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich.

The Men at Work knew how to do it up and so does The Ants Pants Cafe.  (And, seriously, they have vegemite!)  So don’t be a bludger get here, go here, eat here, love it here.  Serving breakfast, lunch, brunch, coffee, espresso and freeeee wi-fiiiii Monday through Sunday you’re able to get a taste of ‘down un-dah’ any day of the week.  My personal favorite?  The sweet potato fries.  And, I hear the banana chocolate milk shakes kick ask. ;)
    See you in a Divvy!

What's a day in Philadelphia without a cheesesteak right?

Can’t say that I’ve had one from this joint, yet.  I stress yet.  BUT…I hear they’re great.  And, depending who you ask they’re better than those two crazy, well lit places just a few blocks away.  Judging by the <constant> line around the corner I would say that Jim’s gots it going on!

    Time to cleanse the palate?

After all this eating how ’bout a break in a place that takes a more liquid approach? Fat Tuesday is a roaring good time.  I can certainly say the drinks…um…work?  I once drank so many frozen concoctions that busting out an impromptu, no backgound music karaoke of Ice, Ice Baby seemed like a good idea. It may or may not have been in Vegas…I…think?  Again.  Drinks involved.

    'Atsa nice slice...

…seriously.  It was the size of my head.  And, while my head isn’t freakishly huge, a slice of pizze the size of it?  Well worth the wait in line.  It’s basically across the street from the Fillmore/TLA Theatre.  Grab a slice, catch a show!

    Tattooed Mom

    530 S Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147

    PBR me ASAP!

Tattooed Mom has a myspace, a flickr account, a sock puppet party, and was voted the best dive bar.  Tres hip, no?

And it all ends with some sweet stuff.

If, by now, you’re not suffering a cheesesteakpizzavegemitefrozendrink stomachache then have a stoppy for some sugary goodness.
