I've been noticing lately when I meet someone new that I ask for their links before their phone number. Social networking sites are replacing my phone. Shh...don't let it know! I want to know what social websites you use and why. Be sure to include the link to your profile so I can follow you :)
Twitter is a FREE social networking and micro-blogging website. Its users can send and read other user’s updates – called tweets. These text-based posts are made up of 140 characters, which makes for some pretty funny and interesting updates.
Users can follow another user and keep track of their updates as they post them.
People don’t always welcome change. Recently Facebook made some major changes to its site and at first, it wasn’t welcomed by many users. I wasn’t a big fan of it, but now I don’t know what I’d do without some of the new features.
Did you use Facebook more or less before the change?
I use Facebook to keep in touch with people I went to school with, met at various networking events as well as those I work with. Here’s a link to a fellow Guidespotter’s event. The site makes it even easier to help plan events of all sizes!
Linked In:
LinkedIn.com is Facebook for your career. Your profile reflects your résumé, specialties, interests and references, becoming a convenient online spokesperson for your expertise! Connecting with your colleagues expands your network of professional contacts while proudly displaying people singing your praises for all to see!
Companies are beginning to hop on board and signing up for their own Twitter account. This is great because it gives them a chance to see what consumers and future customers are saying about their company or product.
I prefer Facebook to Myspace for a number of reasons. The fact that I don’t receive messages from escort services is pretty high up on my list of reasons. Facebook feels more professional to me. I don’t fear my inbox being full of spam messages.
Facebook has connected me to people I haven’t seen in 10 years. Your profile can be as public or private as you want it to be.

The Power of Twitter 2
Not only is Twitter a powerful way to connect with your friends and get news from savvy corporations – it’s also a fantastic way for you to connect with people who you otherwise wouldn’t. Twitter etiquette says to follow your followers, lending you the ear of executives of your dream job, celebribloggers and more. Now just shrink your elevator speech (30secs) to 140 characters or less and you’re golden!
Stumbleupon.com lets you, well, stumble upon websites, which you can vote on, review, and share. You can download the toolbar on your browser and stumble at any time!!! Watch out, totally addicting!
A user sets their preferences and interests, which helps them to connect and find new friends, as well as stumble across websites based on their own intersts or their friend’s interests… vote, share, mingle, chat…
This is one of the strongest and most supportive online communities that I have seen and been a part of… Not only do I love feeling like I am part of a a supportive community, but I totally love stumbling in meetings, while I am on the phone, or while I am waiting for something to download… stumble stumble stumble and you find some amazing sites, meet some amazing and witty people, and stumble across some amazing resources!
OK, I’m an editor here. But even if I wasn’t, this site would still be a serious destination for time-wasting for me. Known as “Digg for chicks”, Kirtsy is a space where users can read, post, and comment on a constantly-changing array of cool links.
