When you have a cold you feel tired, achey, dizzy, and oh so much more! In order for your body to combat these symptoms it must push your immune system into full force. This can take a dramatic toll on you and your body. By increasing the fighting power of your body you use more energy and nutrients, and to give the body the proper support you must be able to supply the body with energy and nutrients as well as provide a proper way to dispose of the cold itself.
So how do you facilitate these problems? There is no set one way, but by offereing a variety of options the body has several ways to easily become healthy. Some of these techniques have been used for years, some are old whives tales that have been known to work and also clinical procedures that are derived from the brilliant minds of educated physicians. This remedy can also be effective with a little bit of whiskey, referring to the home remedy of whiskey, lemon, and honey. It has been known to help but if you dont feel like drinking while your sick it might not help that much.
Dealing with a cold can create a substantial amount of stress to you mentally as well as physically. A bath drawn with the proper ingredients can ease your muscular tension and pain, decongest your sinuses, relieve a headache, and also help excrete toxins from the body.
Fill a bathtub wilh warm water, the hotter the better. Add a cup or two of epsom salt, it will help keep the water warm a little longer as well as help the heat seap into your muscles. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to help break up mucus and open your airways. The steam will help vaporize the oil getting it into your respiratory system easier. Other oils can be used to help other sypmtoms, lavendar for example can help with a headache and ease tension in your shoulders neck and head.
While in a hot bath the pours of your skin will open up and absorb the heat of the bath as well as excrete toxins that are running through your body. After your bath be sure to rise off with cool water, it will close your pours preventing germs to enter your body through the skin.
Rest, Rest, Rest!
Your body works incredibly hard to fight off a cold, but giving it the proper nutrients is not enough. The body must have rest in order to take those nutrients to the rest of the body, and is best done when you are not up and moving around. So take it easy kick back and rest as much as your body wants to. Go ahead baby yourself a little!
When your body uses most of its energy to fight invading bodies it must have a ready supply to be replenished in order to continue fighting. The best way to do this is with proper nutrition. Fast food and TV dinners do not have the nutrition that your body requires to fight a cold but there are a few simple foods that will help you.
CHICKEN SOUP- It’s been called nature’s penicillin and is at the top of the list for its curative powers. Hot chicken soup helps clear clogged airways, and the nourishing broth will give you more energy. Add plenty of vegetables, including onion and garlic, for extra healing power.
HOT & SPICY- Some people swear by garlic, horseradish, chillis or spicy sauces to help ease congestion.
GARLIC- This fragrant bulb contains a flavoring agent called alliin which acts as a decongestant. Garlic is also believed to act as an antioxidant and destroy free-radicals, the active oxygen molecules that damage cells, so add garlic liberally to your favourite foods.
VITAMIN C- Citrus fruits aren’t the only foods high in vitamin C. Potatoes, green peppers, strawberries and pineapple can help as your daily cold-fighting food arsenal.
FLUIDS- In order to flush your body out and quickly bring nutrients to the entire body you need to have enough fluids. Drinking fluids high in electrolytes will work better than just water. Gatoraide will work but it is high in sugar content. Drinking fresh juices and/or pedia-lite will work the best!

Increasing circulation throughout your body increases the the ability for you your immune system to effeciently fight a cold. Stretching, proper breathing, and not overwhelming the body with a full work out. Yoga is a combination of both stretching and meditation.
