Looking to score? Try these dates on for size
Are your dinner and movie dates just no longer cutting it? Running out of ideas to impress your significant other? Perhaps you're in the doghouse and looking for a way out? Though Emerald Dandy may be perpetually single, he's still got a few romantic tricks up his sleeve. Try one (or all) of these ideas, and see just how lucky you get.
Date Idea #1: A little bit of culture
Read on if: You’re looking to wow your date with kitsch and culture.
Make your first stop at the Seattle Art Museum, taking in some of the coolest art (did anybody else noticed the puppy?) in one of our best museums. After an hour (or three) at the Museum, impress your date with a walk through Pike Place Market.
Though its seemingly a bit touristy (try visiting during the week when it’s quieter), you’ll be able to impress your date with a fresh bouquet of flowers and take in a bite to eat at one of the many quaint cafes amidst Post Alley.
Haven’t wowed your date yet? Try walking down the Harbor Steps and take in the sights and sounds of the waterfront, ending your date taking in the sunset at the Olympic Sculpture Park (Hollywood kiss optional).
Date Idea #3: Flee the city (or at least feel like it)
Read on if: You wanna spice up your date by showing a little skin.
A recommended date for one of the few sunny Seattle days, take a quick jaunt across the West Seattle bridge over to Alki to soak in some rays.
Walk or rollerblade down the boardwalk (get some exercise while getting close to your honey) and take in the beautiful view of downtown off in the distance. Be sure to take some time relaxing on the beach (one of Washington’s only sandy beaches), if the weather is warm enough you just might be able to reveal some skin (read: bring your swimsuits JUST in case!)
After some time at the beach, stroll over to Cactus for some of the cities most amazing Mexican. I can’t tell you how much you’ll enjoy their menu… my fat days were spent devouring Navajo Torta’s with glasses of Sangria. Try to not overdo the heavy food, because that might be the only hot and heavy you’ll be getting!
Date Idea #5: Pulling out the stops
Gotten yourself into the doghouse? Here’s a sure fire way to get you back out. Caution: you better be dressed to the nines and be ready to fork over some serious dough.
Start the night out with dinner at Barolo – the apres work watering hole for the upwardly mobile. You best have an eclectic palette for fine dining, as you won’t find a cheeseburger on the menu.
After you’ve wow’ed your date with dinner (and put a nice dent in your check book) make your way over to the 5th Ave to catch the latest show. YES, I said show. We’re not talking movies here mister, taking your date to live theatre will show your date just how much thought and attention to detail you’ve put into this evening.
After the play, saunter over next door for one last pricey cocktail at Vessel before you retire for the evening. Though a seemingly simple (and pricey) night, by visiting these locations you’ll more than likely win your way back into the graces of your significant other.
Bonus Round: Keeping it Casual
Bring on the beer and peanuts, because every once in awhile we all need a date that’s more on the casual side.
Grab those tickets to the M’s and make your way into the city for a pre-funk at the Pyramid Brewery Tailgate. After soaking up some beer, make your way across the street and let the festivities begin.
Whether your near home plate or up in the nose bleeds, nothing really matters as long as you’ve got your greasy food and alcohol, right? I’d honestly say avoid your seats all together and camp out at the beer garden – the excitement is much better down there.
If you think you’ve had enough of Garlic Fries and Dippin Dots, make your way up to the Hill or Queen Anne for one final stop: Dick’s Drive In. After all, a day like today isn’t complete without some more grease in your diet :-)
Where to Eat
If at the very least – food is always a good way to your dates heart.
Date Idea #2: The local, playful taste of Seattle
Read on if: You want to impress your date with a little fun and the many beautiful views of Seattle.
Start your date with coffee and donuts at Top Pot on Galer (my personal favorite is the Pink Boa, now is that a surprise?). Take a stroll through the neighborhood admiring the beautiful architecture making your way towards Kerry Park (ensue romantic gestures). Considered one of the best viewpoints in the city, if Kerry Park doesn’t inspire romance on your date then I’m not sure what will.
Continue your date by making your way down the hill to Lower Queen Anne and take a break at the Seattle Center. Though seemingly cliche, I’d recommend taking a trip to the top of the Space Needle (perhaps even a romantic lunch or dinner at the top?), experiencing a 360 degree view of our beautiful Emerald City.
Ready for more? While you would THINK to go to Peso’s and drink amidst the blondina’s and bad music, STAY AWAY (you’ll thank me later). Keep walking, and cozy into the Sitting Room for a glass of wine before calling it a night.
The Space Needle, Seattle's iconic 605-foot-tall building, was originally built to be the crown jewel of the 1962 Seattle World's Fair Expo; when it was completed, it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi. Date Idea #4: One last romantic idea
Read on if: You want to appear “in the know” of some of the city’s fantastic hidden gems.
Spend your Sunday evening up on Capital Hill enjoying one last night before your hellacious work week begins. Start out with a wood-fired pizza and a bottle of red at Via Tribunali. Quaint and intimate, Via Trib feels like you’ve stepped into Italy for a slice (or four) of heaven.
After dinner, stroll down Broadway toward St. Mark’s Cathedral (a perfect people watching opportunity en route) as you make your way toward Compline. No matter your faith (or lack there of), the Compline service each Sunday is an eerily meditative experience of chanting monks and the occasional organ performance.
Afterwards, make your way back down Broadway and over to B&O Espresso for a slice of heaven. Hands down one of the best places for dessert in the city, you’ll have no trouble at all fulfilling your sweet tooth.
With a night like this you’ll surely get what you’re looking for ;-) and no, I’m not talking about tickets to the next M’s game.
