Belly Flop Your Way to Seattle Summer Fun!
Summer's almost here, and you know what that means -- time for me to make an ass of myself at the pool! You know that guy who does stupid backflips and huge belly flops off the diving board? That's me! Well me, and the other belly-flopping winners in this guide.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
All of the videos in this guide are best viewed with the sound turned ON, as half the pleasure of another person’s flop comes from the completely horrible sound it makes.
This is the closest thing that we have to a water park in Seattle, so by default it’s also one of the best. That being said, they do have a lot of fun water rides here for both single riders and those in a group, and it’s also a lot cheaper than the mega-theme parks you find in other metro areas.

This link has little to do with this guide, but it was too awful to keep to myself. I’m serious when I say DO NOT CLICK. Although it’s hardly the worst that the internet has to offer, just remember that some things are best left unwatched.
Queen Anne Pool
1920 1st Ave. W, Seattle, WA, 98119
The parking could be better here — as it could be anywhere in Queen Anne for that matter — but I think they were trying to make up for that when they installed the rope swing. Which it completely did for me.
Rainier Beach Pool
8825 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA, 98118
As it is with most public Seattle pools, this is an indoor facility. Which makes perfect sense for those of us who like to swim more than 4 months out of the year. Rainier Beach pool is a favorite spot on the South side due its central location, ample parking, large size, and variety of programs offered.
Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion
5303 228th Street SW, Mountlake Terrace, WA, 98043
This place is definitely geared more towards family fun. The indoor pool has an expansive kiddie area, basketball hoops, one of those big mushroom waterfall things, and even a lazy river. On a personal note, this was the site of my very first belly flop in the Seattle Metro Area. Ah, good times.
Lowery C. "Pop" Mounger Pool
2535 32nd Ave. W, Seattle, WA, 98199
Mounger Pool is actually two great outdoor pools at the same location. The larger of the two has a 50-foot corkscrew slide, with the “little pool” boasting warmer (94 degrees) and shallower waters for the little ones in your family. Or in the case of my family, the big kids who like to slide on their tummies like Shamu.
Colman Pool
8603 Fauntleroy Way SW, Seattle, WA, 98136
This Seattle landmark is a favorite in the summertime. Set outdoors, it’s also right off the beach with great views, and the pool is filled with saltwater that has been heated to a cozy 85 degrees. My kid’s favorite part is the giant tube slide, an amenity I can totally get behind.
Inexpensive membership, impeccably clean facilities, one of the best lap pools in town. And they won’t even kick you out if you sing that Village People song the entire time you’re there.

You might think that a resort-style lodge, complete with giant indoor water park would be completely out of place in B.F.E. Central Washington. You’d also be completely right. Nonetheless, this place exists, and it has been raking in the visitors (and their money) since it’s opening a few years ago. While I’ve never been, it does seem like it be a good middle-ground between staying home or blowing all of my money at Disneyland.
