Technology you're afraid to adopt

I'm pretty interested in all the new gadgets coming out. I'd be lying if I said I didn't secretly pine over the iPhone - I swear that phone will take over the world one day. But there are some things I'm hesitant to adopt. Would you believe that I never wanted to own a camera phone? When they first came out I scoffed, saying I'd never own one, I didn't see the point. Why carry a crappy camera on your phone when there are 7 megapixel cameras available? I soon got off my high horse and now I couldn't imagine not having a camera on my phone. This doesn't mean that I'm old or I don't welcome change, I simply enjoy certain aspects about doing things the old way. Trust me, I'm all for new technology, but I have to draw the line somewhere. So what gadgets are you hesitant to adopt? What seems unnecessary?

The Kindle

I do not like the kindle. I’m a big fan of books. I love the way they smell. I love folding over the top corner of pages, underlining quotes and flipping through the pages. I can’t do that with a kindle. What would I fill my bookshelves with if I had one? How could I show off my smarts if I couldn’t display my collection of Shakespeare and anatomy books?

Touch Screen Phones

Although I think the concept of a touch screen for a phone is pretty cool, I can’t get used to the idea of not having actual keys to hit. I’m sure eventually I’ll move to the dark side, but for now I want to at least have the option to do it the old fashion way.

ALL OF IT

I am so afraid of technology. I thought I was safe being a teacher and only using a computer for email checking and reading my favorite site, “Useless Knowledge.” Now I practically make a living because of the internet and I don’t like that! I was reluctant to get a cell phone, reluctant to join Twitter, reluctant reluctant reluctant!
I hate the idea of a Kindle—I don’t care how many trees I kill! I want my books made out of a paper. I’m sort of anti-iPhone as well, only because I don’t ever want to be connected. So many people have them in New York and it’s tiring to watch them always on their phones. PUT. IT. AWAY
Okay, it’s not that I truly hate all these gadgets, but I am wary of how they change communication and relationships. Do they really make it easier? Or do they perhaps take away from other aspects of our lives? Do we really need more forms of entertainment? Did that email replace actually hanging out with someone? Did that person not even look at the birthday e-card because those are a dime a dozen? Did he really just look at his iPhone 5 times in an hour?

Bluetooth

I’m worried about someone hacking into my phone somehow through a Bluetooth vulnerability!

Digital Frames

Why? Why should I have a digital frame showing my pictures? Couldn’t a standard frame do the same job? What about the glow from the frame when it’s dark? That’s just something else I have to worry about turning off before bed. I don’t need the extra fuss. There’s something oddly satisfying about displaying real print pictures.

Blu-Ray

I don’t see why I should pay more for something my DVD player does. I’m okay not seeing the beads of sweat form on Brad Pitt’s chest in Troy or an eye lash on the cheek of Angelina. Really. Stop making me try to spend more money.

Have you seen the commercial for this? Soon we won’t be able to imagine a time we lived without being able to tell the longitude and lattitude of every single friend.

@ GillianS That is hilarious! I hope she didn’t buy that for herself.

One of the funniest things I ever saw was a woman who couldn’t figure out her digital picture frame, so she had just stuck regular photos in it.
