I eat out at least four days a week. So now that my finances are, ahem-low, which may be a serious understatement, I've had to get creative with spending. Obviously, we need to buy food, but how can we still eat well and save money?? What are your money saving tips?!

SAVE KETCHUP PACKETS

Granted, ketchup is usually the one condiment left in the fridge when there’s nothing else- wouldn’t it be nice if you saved a few bucks on that ketchup and just used the free stuff???

Same goes for Jam packets, sugar packets, etc.

PLAN YOUR MEALS IN ADVANCE:

This won’t only help you save money because you know how to plan for what you’re spending, but it’ll help you be MUCH MORE ORGANIZED, and takes the stress off when you get home from a long day of work and don’t know what to eat. Who knows, maybe you’ll lose a few pounds too, instead of driving through Mickey D’s!

TIP: Stick to water!

BRING YOUR LUNCH TO WORK!

FREEZE YOUR MEAT.

No matter how I phrased that it was going to sound dirty. But the truth is you can find some great deals in the grocery store, for instance in the “reduced for quick sale” section, then just pop it in the freezer right when you get home!

Tip: Don't buy the pre-cut meat and cheese

….it’s more expensive!

TRADER JOES IS CHEAP

SHOP. THERE. 2 Buck Chuck should be enough of a reason to go.

Free Lemonade

Whenever you go out to eat, ask for a water with lemon wedges.  Total cost = Free.  Now mix in a couple of the sugar packets already at the table, squeeze out the lemon juice, stir and enjoy.  Booyah cheapness.

Buy a Rice Cooker

It may not be very low-carb-friendly, but it is filling. You can make a ton of different meals with rice. Asian meals, stir fry, rice with a little bit of sugar and butter sprinkled on top…did I go too far?

Take advantage of Happy Hour!!

A lot of restaurants have amazing deals on happy hour food. $2 appetizers, who says jalapeno poppers can’t be dinner?

What's the best happy hour in your city???

BUY IN BULK, Costco is your new best friend.

Come on, who wouldn’t want to get down on that much oatmeal??

TIP: Buy directly from the grower. I.E. Check out local farmers markets!

If you don’t have a green thumb enough to have your own garden, which also saves money, visit farmers markets. You’ll also get the freshest product available.

What about being a "FREEGAN?"

Yes, those thrifty people who dig through dumpsters for free food.

What’s a freegan? Here’s what they say:
“Freegans are people who employ alternative strategies for living based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources. Freegans embrace community, generosity, social concern, freedom, cooperation, and sharing in opposition to a society based on materialism, moral apathy, competition, conformity, and greed.”

If you want to save money, buying a rice cooker is taking a step backward. Rice is way to easy to cook without a special piece of equipment to do it in. And happy hour? I suggest cutting it out as often as possible. Trader Joes, cheap? I don’t think I could even get 2 buck chuck past my nose. Rice, pasta and frozen veggies are cheap, and if you are buying meat in bulk then you can throw that in whatever you make. Canned tuna, salmon are cheap enough for that sort of fix. Cereal is now dinner or late night munch. Raw bulk veggies for snacks. Don’t buy anything you don’t need and use coupons!!!

The pod of Mother Earth
You know you're going to give your kid a complex if you call them "The Mean Bean" instead of; sweetiepie, sugar face, bear, etc. My nickname stuck- even when I got nicer. AND my affinity for all things BEAN happens to be tremendous; Coffee beans (my coffee feign), Cocoa beans, Vanilla beans, chic...
