Get Thrifty, COUPLE UP!

-620552838

Oh yeah, that's right- I'm in a POOR relationship, WEALTHY in love and smooches and all that good stuff, but very, very, poor. We're musicians and writers, I mean come on. The thing is, we'd really like to continue functioning like NORMAL human beings, so we have to get creative. Being in a relationship doesn't have to break the bank! In fact, you may be able to save a little....

Take a Shower Together

Widget_bofkhhjrljnivxffwcdlk_

Your water bills can get really high if there’s multiple people taking showers, sometimes a couple times a day- so why not hop in there together?? You’ll save money, and YOU make get a little nookie. All I’m sayin’….

It's all about SHARING

It would be a MASSIVE understatement to say that I visit Subway OFTEN, I visit Subway sometimes daily. You can get a five dollar footlong, AND you can each choose what you want on your half. As long as you can agree on the meet, he can have mayo and you can have mustard- or whatever fancy thing you like to do to customize your sammy. It’s a filling meal and you could maybe splurge on chips….or a cookie.

CARPOOL- go green and save some dough.

One thing that can be really difficult in a relationship is the commuting!! Especially if you live on opposite sides of your state. So, if you both have SOMETHING in a common area i.e. work, friends, family, etc. you can find a central meeting place and carpool to wherever you’re probably going to go together anyway. Take one car- you’ll save money, and help the environment.

Unisex Clothing

Widget_dwzcfl2ifmap8akopfa1x-

Obviously, this one doesn’t work out when you’re completely different sizes. Luckily for me, I date musicians so if anything…I’m squeezing into their clothes, not the other way around. Sad, sad. Since graphic t-shirts are so popular right now, most places you go you could actually find unisex sizes. You’ll both look fashionable, and save some dough.

Unisex friendly stores:
1. American Apparel
2. Urban Outfitters
3. Thrift Shops
4. Lucky
5. American Eagle
6. Abercrombie and Fitch (I prefer sharing the sweats from here)

Get good GYM Deals and a smaller a**

Widget_ajnzpnhgpnlyfrys6hcpi7

Its much easier to pay for a gym membership ( they can be very expensive) if you have someone there with you that get can split a “deal” with. At a lot of gyms there are “family” or “friend” memberships, check it out!

MOVE IN TOGETHER

Widget_a-487c1dxflr9v3_auwym3

This is an OBVIOUS one. If you’re ready to take that step, it’s also the THRIFTIEST. You can get a one bedroom apartment and save a whole bunch of money by splitting a rent that was the ENTIRE rent of your last apartment. PLUS, then you split water, gas, electric, etc. etc.

.....then there's always, GETTING MARRIED.

If you’re on that path….

Two for ONE Happy Hours

Buy one get one BEERS= HEAVEN. They also equal and easy way for you and your love to get out of the house and not get in a massive fight over not being able to afford to pay the bill. This may be one tab that your hunny can pick up.

Did I mention that you can also probably drink a little bit more???

Pool Your Resources

Widget_aczq45vs5ht7tqdmpfpouu

It’s amazing how much money you can save when you cash in all of your change. Before you go to bed every night create a jar that sits somewhere in your room, so you can empty out your pockets and start saving for something fancy for the two of you to do together- a trip, a good date night, a new vaccuum.

Mobile-to-mobile phones

Widget_cuypqpovnelqhi8oswlzzk

Phone bills suck. YEA, that’s right- they SUCK. SO, if you’re with someone who’s a chatty Cathy you may be feeling it on your next phone bill. I’ve had phone bills with upwards of 300 something dollars because we had to talk until dawn. The best way to avoid that- switch your plan. Get mobile to mobile minutes and you’ll have a lot more change in your pocket.

Share Your Dessert

This one is hard for me, not gonna lie. But, it’s weight friendly AND savings friendly. Plus, some desserts are just MEANT to be shared. Like these:

1. Twix
2. Hostess cupcakes
3. Twinkies
4. Two scoops of icecream
5. Two part creme brulee (at The Grand Lux)
6. Little Debbie Cakes
7. Molton Chocolate Cake from Chili’s
8. Popsicle
9. Pop Tarts (who says this is just for breakfast?)
10. Grandma’s Cookies

TRUE- BUT, if you ask for it, you can still get it. Even though it isn’t on the menu- that’s some underground shiz.

I don’t think they still sell the double cheeseburger meal at McDowell’s. But try the poorman’s combo meal (McDouble cheeseburger and sundae). It’s pretty excellent and is under $2

The pod of Mother Earth
You know you're going to give your kid a complex if you call them "The Mean Bean" instead of; sweetiepie, sugar face, bear, etc. My nickname stuck- even when I got nicer. AND my affinity for all things BEAN happens to be tremendous; Coffee beans (my coffee feign), Cocoa beans, Vanilla beans, chic...
