We've Been Drunk for 75 Years! How Will You Celebrate Repeal Day?
Today, December 5th, 2008 marks 75 years since Prohibition has been repealed in the U.S. I know that in Los Angeles, there are tons of events involving cheap booze and debauchery...what about where you are?
A Little History (Read Before Drinking)
On January 16th, 1920, the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution went into effect, PROHIBITING ALCOHOL. Oh, god. I don’t even want to think about how awful that would be. 1,520 Federal agents were charged with enforcing the new law.
Actually, you really should just read the wikipedia article because there is way more that I feel like summarzing. Suffice to say, it reminds me a lot of the current argument over marijuana. Doctors wanted to prescribe medicinal beer. Um, take 8 Stellas and call me in the morning!

A Harlem speakeasy that was written up in the New York Times today (Repeal Day). If you find yourself in Harlem, check it out. It sounds kind of awesome.
Dewar's Repeal Day
The following bars are going to be celebrating Repeal Day the right way: CHEAP DRINKS!!"
From 8PM-11PM: 75 cent Dewar’s drinks. SEVENTY-FIVE CENTS! I don’t even like Dewar’s all that much but I’ll be damned if I’m not going to drink a lot of it tonight! After 11pm, it’ll still be only 5 bucks!
As it’s a scant 5 blocks from my house, you will find me at the Dresden. After 11, you will probably find me in my bed because I don’t know how much Dewar’s I can handle and still be any fun.
Sneaky Sneak
And everyone thinks I am all healthy with tons and tons of water! Like clear Pepsi in school when I was younger… sneaky sneak. ;)
Might hit this up later tonight after din din…. Let you know how it goes!

And just so somebody said it… celebration of events like this should always end by being very annoying in very nice hotel lobbies, and drunk make-outs in the elevator.
