Remember 90's Love in New York City
This morning while listening to my ipod on the shuffle mode, I found myself singing full voice, whole hearted to: "Inside Out" by Eve 6, "Shine" by Collective Soul, and "No Rain" by Blind Melon- which then spun me into a little blur (which was also a great band) of nostalgia. What ever happened to that little Bumble Bee girl?? Or, remember when scrunchies, baby dolls dresses and plaid were awesome....?? I WANT THAT BACK. I spent all morning, wishing I had enjoyed the 90's just a little bit more. Here's my guide to what I miss from the 90's past, where it's still peaking through in the 2000's and where to bring it back to life!
Beverly Hills 90210
Floral Print was HUGE
BRINGING IT TO NYC...
Some of the best TV shows from the 90’s were actually based on lives in New York City, Friends and Seinfeld but since then many stars from former 90’s television have managed to bring it over the East Coast. For instance:
David Hyde Pierce from Frasier in Curtain on Broadway
Jennie Garth from 90210 on the TV show “What I Like About You” based in NYC.
Christina Appledate from Married With Children stared in “Sweety Charity” on Broadway
Curtains! Al Hirschfeld Theatre
302 West 45th ST New York, NY 10036
GO SEE CURTAINS! IT’S INCREDIBLE.
Remember Uma’s sultry little dance scene with John Travolta….well we aren’t all as naturally talented as Ms. Uma (who by the way has the perfect body for a dancer, great limbs) so some of us have to have a little extra training…..TANGOOOOOOOO?!

I LOVE THE 90'S IN NEW YORK CITY
PLAID SKIRT-SUITS, VERY SEXY.
I don’t know what woman didn’t want emulate the “Clueless” look when this movie came out. Knee high stocking were flying off shelves.
THE 2000'S VERSION OF PLAID
D&G can pull of anything. Even this. P.S. To the lady at the salad place who laughed at my long red plaid dress…..I should’ve tripped you on your way out.
EVEN KURT LOVED THE PLAID.
Nirvana, does it get more grunge than that? And what gets more 90’s than grunge?
Great, great documentary if you’re a Nirvana fan….
….I have yet to find one that sells TALKING Chihuahuas, but I’m sure that’s a “underground” thing.
The teletubbies, which in my opinion was the best kids show of the late nineties and one of the most infamous ninties phrases…WASSSSSSSSSSUUUPPPPPPP…..make a little youtube love child.
THE TELEVISION ROCKED MY WORLD
Whenever I think of the 90’s I remember when the most exciting thing was getting home from school in time to watch back to back episodes of 90210 and Saved By The Bell. I have a hopeless little crush on Zach and was sure that Tiffany Amber Thiessen was perfect.
Sadly, as the 2000’s crept in we lost all of the good teen drama’s, the Fresh Prince and the Full House to REALITY TELEVISION. When kids in the 90’s were learning about sex and relationships from the trampy chicks are Beverly Hills high, now they’re learning about it from Tila Tequila instead. Tell me, who do YOU think is a better role model? The TV tramps from the 90’s like Christina Applegate from Married With Children didn’t do any harm to us other than inspire ratted hair and poofy bangs.
P.S. YOU KNOW WHAT I MISS THE MOST?? Daria and Beavis and Butthead. What does that say about me as a person?
MOVIES
The 90’s movies were amazing….I know we’ve amped up our technology and we have more access to artsy films, etc. Film has definitely changed, humor has changed and action movies have gotten a little too realistic…but here’s a list of 90’s movie loooove:
- Men in Black, based in NYC! Who knew that Will Smith would come back a few years later and really freak us out with I AM LEGEND
- Scream
- Jerry McGuire
- Toy Story (it still kicks Monsters Inc in the a**)
- Ace Ventura Pet Detective
- Pulp Fiction
- Wayne’s World
- Empire Records
- Dazed and Confused
- Titanic
- Austin Powers

THE FASHION!
Fashion has always been my thing. When I was younger I went to Los Angeles once a year every Oct (not just for shopping, though it did seem that way) and I would stock up on all “the trends” before anyone caught onto them in my hometown. Sometimes this made me the coolest kid in school, other times I’d go to school in August and have people making fun of my; leggings, rhinestone cowboy look, neon, capris, grunge look, WHATEVER the trend, until about February when everyone finally caught on and realized…..I was awesome.
Some of my favorite 90’s trends I still do my best to rock today. For instance:
LEGGINGS. Hello. Leggings are perfect as long as you don’t wear them with sneakers and a shirt that doesn’t cover your tush, if you do that, you’ll look like a tool.
Doorknocker Earrings- sure they’re a little Salt-N-Peppa inspired, but they’re still hot.
PLAID- I have an astounding collection of plaid things. Seriously.
Maryjanes- classic. End of story.
Trends I’m not brave enough to bring to life (and not entirely sure I support their revival)
Backwards Overalls….
Midriff Baby-Tees
Combat Boots
Platform Sneakers
M.I.A rock the late 80's/90's gear....
on the cover of New York based MissBehave magazine. My grandma had jackets like that with matching pants, “running suits” if you will…..I thought she was so hip.

STOP THE INSANITY!!!!!!!!!!
Remember her?? Susan Powter was yelling at people all over America to get their asses in shape during the nineties.
I saw her recently, when I was working the red carpet….I saw her approaching as she walked through the press line and the second before she was about to come my way, I BOLTED! I am. terrified. of her. I was sure she’d see right through me and read my mind that I was excited about the free cookies and open bar.
I was tempted to start training for a triathalon one day after devouring a very large and delicious danish. For some people it take very extreme measures. Meeting Susan Powter certainly tempted me.

Alright so this isn’t your average sports bar. Guys aren’t sitting around in their sports gear, throwing peanuts on the floor. This sports bar is owned by hip hip rap superstar and New Yorker, Jay-Z. That’s right ladies and gentleman, so put on your best before hitting this bar for a Bud.
