"It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power." -Alan Cohen

…And you are now on it.

You Don't Have to Do This Alone!

Widget_ax6zs2pmzicrthwyah4lnz

If you have even one friend or one family member you can reach out to, do it. Call them right now. The people who love you want to help. And if you can’t think of a friend or family member, call a helpline. These guys are here for you. They chose their job because they care. It’s not impossible to do this alone, but having a shoulder to lean on is going to make a big difference. And guess what? Someday you can return the favor.

Your body can heal again. Just imagine how good it would feel not to have to worry every day about your health…

Eric Clapton on Addiction

The great Eric Clapton talks about his struggle with heroin.

Think Maybe You Don't Need This?

You may be a person who has never seriously considered suicide, but drug use over a prolonged period of time will take its toll on your body, not to mention that you never know what sudden and irreversible effects it can have. It’s time to give your body a break so that it can heal. The sooner, the better. In other words, NOW!

James Taylor - Fire and Rain - James Taylor Sings James Taylor

James Taylor struggled with addiction for about 18 years, beginning in NYC in the 1960s. He says he probably “should’ve died five or six times.”

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.”

- Charles Darwin

Not the Way

These lost souls were not so lucky. Every day spent using is a roll of the dice. Don’t take this chance.

CONGRATULATIONS

You may have lingering doubts, but the one thing you know for certain is that you want to change your life; you want to kick your habit; you want to get back to a life without addiction. Whether or not you succeed today or six weeks from now is not important. What’s important is that you are going to do this. You can and you will. Picture yourself at the start of a path. This isn’t a race, so you don’t have to concern yourself with speed. All you need to keep in mind is that whether you are crawling, walking, jogging or sprinting, you are moving forward from now on. There is no going back. Congratulations.

Who You Are

You may have some notion of who fits the bill of an addict, but addiction is not always so visible. New York City addicts can be public or private school students, homeless individuals, Upper East Side housewives, teachers, senior citizens, Wall Street brokers, local politicians, blue collar workers, and celebrities. Addiction crosses every socioeconomic barrier in existence. Addiction is blind to sex, race, and age. You are not alone…not by a long shot.

Who You are NOT

You are not a failure. Some people suffer only minor mental and physical effects as a result of their addiction at first. This is why friends, family members and coworkers don’t always notice the problem. As addiction persists and even worsens, it’s possible that your work, health, finances and relationships could suffer. You may lose things you never thought yourself capable of losing. But this does not make you a failure. You have decided it is time to change. Negative thoughts are useless to you now. Embrace the future. Anything is possible.

You're a Genius

…Has anyone ever told you that before? Well, you are.

Someone Loves You...

It might feel like you’re worlds away from your family, friends, everyone who “used” to know you. But remember that you are loved. It’s even possible that you haven’t even met the person who loves you yet. Give yourself that chance.

"Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

-Dylan Thomas
