Recession FRIENDLY Redecorating!
Lately I've really wanted to revamp, redo, RENEW, all of the things in my house and frankly, haven't had the budget to do so. It seems completely unnecessary when I'm worried about rent to be worrying about how to spice up my apartment....BUT, with some awesome tips from magazines, decorators, and crafty friends- I've managed to REVAMP without throwing away a ton of cash. WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE SOMETHING OLD NEW AGAIN???
Paint a Headboard
One thing that can make you room look really WARM and full is by having a headboard, and a lot of the time when you’re on a budget- you’ve got a mattress and a box spring. So, rather than going out and buying a really expensive headboard you can get tape and tape off what kind of head board you’d like and paint around it for something like the picture above! You could even keep the outline white and paint a deeper color like a dark magenta or chocolate brown.
Use Your SHEETS
The budget you need to buy a brand new couch, or brand new CURTAINS isn’t always something you have sitting around…but, you DO have sheets hanging around, or you can definitely get retro looking sheets from thrift stores for super inexpensive that will give your room a new vibe.
Create a work space
As a writer, it’s essential for me to have a SPACE that’s designated as my “work zone.” Otherwise, I’ll end up laying in bed with my laptop on my lap which is just an easier way for me to surf Facebook instead of getting work done. So, with some fabric you can create a little “work tent.” If you will, that will help you escape to you work place.
Stencil!
I just completed my first ever stenciling project. All you need is an alphabet stencil, a small amount of time, literary inspiration and a few hours.
So you want NEW ART????
Sometimes the easiest way to revamp your place is with a coat of paint and some new art work, well, unfortunately art can be expensive!!
Thank God for the internet! Now you can go online and print silhouettes or stencils like those above, and put them in an inexpensive frame or cut out of material or colored paper and mounted on some type of wood (which can easily be found) and BAM! You have new, inexpensive art.
Use paint samples to make a cool design
You can get colored paint sample for free from paint stores…collect a bunch and you can design something interesting with with the colors on a coffee table and place a piece of glass over it. It instantly looks like you got a new coffee table!
Use old magazine covers
Frames can be really inexpensive and magazine are too, compared to buying fancy art. You can go to an old or used bookstore and buy vintage magazine covers, frames and create a little wall of fashion-y vintage elegance.
HIDE CLUTTER
When you have huge bookshelves, or storage spaces without anything to cover them (especially if you’re a messy person) it can make a space look cluttered and small. SO, you can paint some soft canvasses and hang them over your shelves when you can to conceal a messy area but would like to get to your stuff easily.
