Random Cute Guys from Old TV Shows

I grew up watching a lot of TV and like many from my generation, I am frequently nostalgic for those simpler times. So whatever happened to all those random cute guys that starred on the crappy TV shows I watched when I was kid? And more importantly, are they still cute? I'm on a mission to find out.

All That: Josh

All That was like SNL for tweens and I thought it was great.  While I never really saw the appeal of Amanda Bynes, I did have the hots for Josh.

I guess Josh made a good impression on the folks at Nickelodeon because as late as  2007, he was making guest appearances on Drake & Josh.

Today, Josh stars on a web show called Laugh Out Loud that spoofs his real life.  Verdict: went from cute to sexy!  Nice!

Are You Afraid of the Dark?: Ross

Submitted for your approval: My crush on Ross, the cute guy in glasses who ran everything on Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Ross, always a Canuck, graduated from Ryerson University in Canada with a bachelor’s degree in Radio & Television and is now a weather personality on The Weather Network

Where are your glasses? Eh, I’ve lost interest.

The Adventures of Pete & Pete: Ellen

The crush I had from The Adventures of Pete & Pete was actually a girl.  Alison Fanelli played Ellen Hickle, Big Pete’s love interest.  She was always so adorable and charming and smart.  Spontaneous, but still around to keep the Petes grounded.

Alison doesn’t act anymore, but she did earn a Master’s Degree in Heath Care Improvement from Dartmouth.

Here’s Alison during her time at Dartmouth. Still adorable in a slightly geeky way as far as I can tell.

The Wonder Years: Wayne Arnold

We all know that Kevin Arnold from The Wonder Years grew up and directed Daddy Day Camp and Winnie Cooper is some kind of math whiz, but what about Wayne?  I always thought he was pretty hot – bullying Kevin and being a tall, blonde beefcake.  Yum.

Apparently Wayne (Jason Hervey ) worked as a producer for the WCW and then on a number of reality shows, including Scott Baio is 45… and I Want to Be a Hilton.  Isn’t it funny how it all seems to come back to the Hiltons?

Looking pretty douchy, Wayne. But I guess that’s to be expected…

Hey Dude: Jake

Jake was Uncle Ben’s nephew on Hey Dude.  He was taller and blonder than Ted (who ended up on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch) and I always thought he was super cute.

Today, Jake (real name: Jonathan Galkin ) manages DFA Records in New York.  DFA is home to LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture and Hot Chip.

Hey, dude.  That’s pretty cool.

He still has those sexy eyes. The plaid shirt I could do without.

Salute Your Shorts: Michael Stein

When I watched Salute Your Shorts religiously, I definitely liked Blake Soper (now Blake Sennett of Rilo Kiley, soon to be Mr. Winona Ryder), it was little Mikey that was so cute.  He never really stood up to Budnick, but he always meant well.

Today, Erik MacArthur is still acting with roles in Pleasantville and When We Were Soldiers. Erik has also ventured into directing with Bottoms Up starring Jason Mewes and Paris Hilton; No, really.

Mikey? Still cute.

Clarissa Explains it All: Sam

Not only did Clarissa Explains it All have an awesome intro and a totally cool protagonist, Clarissa had Sam. Oh Sam.  His ladder clinked on Clarissa’s window and she chirped “Hi, Sam!” and I swooned every time.  But where is Sam (Sean O’Neal ) now?  There are various false hopes online – that he fronts a band in Austin or paints houses in Orlando, but nothing is confirmed.  I’m going to keep searching, though.  He was the cutest.

In related news, Ferguson (Jason Zimbler ) graduated from Notre Dame and no longer acts.

Sean O’Neal may or may not live here.

You Can't Do That On Television: Alasdair

A lot of people know You Can’t Do That On Television for ironically* launching the career of Alanis Morrissette.  But Alasdair was the reason I watched reruns of this early 80s show well into the 90s on Nickelodeon.

By all accounts, Alasdair is no longer acting but still occasionally makes appearances at Slime related events .  Canadian or not, he was adorable.

(*I know I misused the word irony there.  If she can do it for a whole hit song, I can do it on Guidespot)

So Alasdair is balding a little bit. It’s actually kind of hot.

Ummmm, “Jake” manages DFA?! You didn’t say whether he was married or not? ’Cause I could definitely live with that plaid shirt . . .
