Pub Trivia Nights In LA

-620381758

So you're a Trivial Pursuit champ, eh? Well there's no better place to strut your stuff than at a bar trivia night. Since pub quizzes are a dime a dozen in the UK, most trivia nights take place at English or Irish style pubs, although there is the odd exception (see the Tonga Hut). So grab a pint of Guinness, and bone up on your useless and obscure trivia.

Springbok Bar & Grill

16153 VICTORY BLVD VAN NUYS, CA 91406

This Van Nuys bar is actually a South African rugby bar, but that doesn’t stop the quiz master (in this case mistress), from asking obscure questions about ’80s hair bands or ’60s television shows. And it pays to have a bartender on your team: During the “Name That Shot” round the ingredients of a shot are called out, and whichever team correctly guesses the name of the shot gets a free round.

This pub is a little hard to find, which means it mostly attracts diehard regulars, The space is cozy, which makes it ideal for a heated battle of the wits. And if your team decides you’re more of a hinderance than a help, you can try your hand at the pool table instead.

Even jockeys love trivia!

Tonga Hut

12808 Victory Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91606

A pub quiz night in a tiki bar!? Yes! Cheap drinks ($1 PBR!!!!) and super hard trivia make this NoHo dive a popular destination on Monday nights. So trade in that Newcastle for a Mai Tai and get cracking on those questions!

Casey's Irish Bar & Grill

613 S GRAND AVE LOS ANGELES, CA 90017

O'brien's Pub

2941 Main St, Santa Monica, CA 90405

Wednesdays are dedicated to trivia at this Santa Monica pub, where pub quizzes have been taking place for the last decade. But what makes this trivia a cut above the rest is that it attracts former “Jeopardy!” contestants. Yes, former “Jeopardy!” contestants. So grab five friends and bring your thinking cap, because this one’s going to be a doozy.

The Barrel

4547 VAN NUYS BLVD SHERMAN OAKS, CA 91403

If you’re not afraid of getting your hands (and everything else) dirty, this bar has a lot to offer: cheap drinks, pool, shuffleboard, free popcorn, darts, karaoke, and of course trivia nights. But don’t let your competitive nature get the better of you, this place is no stranger to the odd bar fight.

Fox and Hounds the

11100 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604

This Studio City bar is as British as it gets without getting your passport stamped. So it only makes sense that they would offer a weekly quiz night. The place is a zoo on the weekends, but thank goodness only dedicated trivia lovers show up on Mondays and Wednesdays for the pub quizzes.

Little Bar

757 S La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036

This bar is very “East Coast,” so transplants should feel at home. And unlike most other trivia nights out there, this one is on Saturdays (good news for you workaholics!) And since the bar lives up to its name, it might be a good idea to get there early. But be forewarned, the bar doesn’t have a full liquor license, so you’ll have to make do with beer.

Good guide. I used to play every week at Joxer Daly when I lived in LA. One time the dude who writes ‘Stuff White People Like’ played with us which was as close as I ever got to meeting a “celebrity” in LA. sweet.

I see you’ve forgotten about Monday nights at the Red Lion. That’s OK, I’m sure no one would have the balls to come over there and challenge me anyway…

Hello, elijay- I really liked the theme of this Guide, since I enjoy bar trivia games. I’m from Philadelphia, and the general parlance for bar trivia is “Quizo”. I’m wondering if perhaps that’s a regional thing since I didn’t see that specific term used in this very comprehensive guide to the bar trivia scene in LA… Terrific guide…
