Famous Bands To Come Out Of Chicago
Someone recently wrote that there haven't been many bands coming out of Chicago. To say I disagree would be an understatement. These might not be "good" bands by everyone's standards, but this guide has some of the big and not-so-well-known names to come out of Chicago.
Riviera Theatre

The Riviera Theatre was originally built as a movie theatre, then turned into a private nightclub and is now one of Chicago’s popular concert venues.
Alkaline Trio
Fun Fact: This punk rock band’s first album was titled “Goddamnit!” Love it :)
Park West

I’ve only been to Park West once for a Hotel Cafe Tour, but aside from being located in a hard-to-park area, I enjoyed my experience there.
Fall Out Boy
Fun Fact: The members of New Found Glory contributed guest vocals to FOB’s album, “From Under The Cork Tree.”

Fireside Bowl
2648 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
The Fireside Bowl provided a venue to many local Chicago bands, including the Smoking Popes and other crazy punk bands.
Kill Hannah
Fun Fact: Kill Hannah began in 1995, but didn’t hit it big until 2002 when they signed with Atlantic.
Chicago
Fun Fact: Chicago’s original name was Chicago Transit Authority. Mayor Daley (at the time) did not like that and the band shortened their name to Chicago.
The House of Blues was modeled after the spectacular “Estavovski” Opera House in Prague. It’s located right by the famous “corn cob” towers, a.k.a. Marina City.

Congress Theater

The Congress is an older venue with a ton of history. Most tend to care less about the building than the acts within in.
Pearl Jam
Eddie Vedder, front man of Pearl Jam, was born in Evanston, IL.
Liz Phair
Fun Fact: In the early 1990s, Phair self-released audio cassettes under the moniker Girly Sound.

Fun Fact: The Plain White T’s released four albums prior to their hit “Hey There Delilah.”

The Academy Is
Once rivals, guitarist Mike Carden and vocalist William Beckett got together in 2002 to form The Academy Is.
The Hush Sound
The Hush began as a duo, but eventually turned into an Indie pop quartet after not only adding two more members, but “Sound” to their name, making them The Hush Sound.
Aragon Ballroom

Fun Fact: The Aragon was built in 1926 and designed to resemble a Spanish village and named for a province of Spain.
The Smashing Pumpkins
Fun Fact: Billy Corgan formed a band called The Marked before The Smashing Pumpkins. The name came from a birthmark on his arm.
Kanye West
Fun Fact: West’s mascot and trademark is Dropout Bear, a teddy bear which has appeared on the covers of three of his four albums.
