New Albany is a city in Floyd County, Indiana, situated along the Ohio River opposite Louisville, Ky. In 1900, 20,628 people lived in New Albany; in 1910, 20,629; in 1920, 22,992; and in 1940, 25,414. The population was 37,603 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Floyd CountyGR6. It is bounded by I-265 to the north and the Ohio River to the south, and is considered part of the Louisville, Kentucky metropolitan area. The mayor of New Albany is James E. Garner, Sr., a Democrat, whose current term is set to expire on January 1, 2008.
