It took me several years before I moved into SF, and I found a lot of places in O-town and Berkeley to hang out at. I still try and visit the East bay as much as I can.

Cato's Ale House

Talk about a twist of fate!!! always good food and good brews!!! Sometimes thaey have good bands playing too. A little bit like the BEAR in Chico, before it turns into a bar.

Baywolf

Our favorite restaurant, We just indulged at the Double Duck Festival, thier anual birthday party. I ahve been going there with my best friends for years, and it is teh most reliable family-style restaurant we have as of yet found. Micheal Wilde is a prodigy of Alice Waters, by the ay, and he is a participant in the slow food movement. Chef Louis  is incredibly talented, but is kind of a prick. I like his food regardless.

Becketts of Berkeley

Whether it be fish and chips or Scotch, we made this a regular rendez-vous after work. They host a lot of Great bands, including Raya Nova, and don’t take BS from the CAL Frat Boys.

A truly aristocratic manifestation of religious egotism, this palace can be seen from all across the bay. A gorgeous site, the towers can be seen from SF and Sausalito across the bay, and their fountains are renowned as some of the biggest energy wasters in the area. They didn’t even shut down their floodlights during the energy crisis in 2002.

The big white house at the End of Crissy Fields is how I know this organization. They have some great salt-water tanks there, with anenomes and starfish and eel, and offer Whale-watching cruises.

Cheap pub food and good beer… plus I used to work for them at Jupiter. I always go for the Tree frog, a nice light and crisp ale, but the Dragon’s Milk is a great porter. .. and watch out for MONKEy head on THursdays

George & Walt's

I watched teh Reagan funeral here, and I watched the Warriors lose, and Oakland A’s win. Leather sofas and the Fireplace create a writer’s paradise…

La Pinata Restaurant I

1440 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501

It’s a nice detour for some good tequila and great Chimichangas. I try and order a rice/bean plate, but that would entail sticking with the diet.

Barclay's Restaurant & Pub

Always has great brews on tap, but the service is a wee bit slow… I only go if I have several hours to spend, but their Beer Club is among the tops in the Bay… I can’t wait to actuallymake it to a Firkin Fest

Tilden Park Golf Course

Grizzly Peak & Shast, Berkeley, CA 94702

Spanning the East Bay Ridges and bumping up against Briones, It’s my favorite place to Mountain bike. Splendid views of the bay to the west and points east, I have often seen deer, Rabbit (yummm) and Various reptiles sunning themselves on rocks, in addition to the Butterflies and Red-tailed Hawks. The Flora is splendid as well, especially along the creek.

Marin Brewing Company

1809 Larkspur Landing Cir, Larkspur, CA 94939

THis place is a must after a day at Stinson beach or Mountainbiking Mt. Tamalpias. I love the brews, and the Sidewalk seating is usually a great place to watch day turn to dusk and the suits become human again. Love the Pizzas, but the burgers, while tasty, don’t always come out medium rare like I asked for it… so I usually go with the Bonzer fish and chips… and some wings… and Chris can usually talk me into a beer sampler.

A beautiful little spot just off the main drag, they always have fabulous music and excellent drinks. It’s a great place to just be and enjoy life.
