While California is pretty laid-back, Angelenos are no strangers to stress. Hello, road rage. So it's important to take the time to relax. Yoga won't only make you feel all relaxed, but it'll give you a rocking bod at the same time. Two birds with one stone, people.

Laughing Yoga

Laugh it out.

Maha Yoga

13050 San Vicente Blvd Ste 202, Los Angeles, CA 90049

Yogi Steve Ross helms this bright and airy yoga studio. Maha offers fast-paced yoga classes set against KCRW-worthy tunes. Most of the 1/2 classes might be too advanced for first-timers, although first-timers are welcome to come. Maha boasts an excellent roster of teachers (including Mr. Ross himself)—you can’t go wrong hitting up classes taught by Ish Moran or Stephanie Phelan.

Inner Power Yoga Studio

22233 Mulholland Hwy, Calabasas, CA 91302

This yoga studio is true to its name: it’s all about the power yoga here. The power yoga classes are not easy, so beginners might want to attend a beginner class. Wayne Lehrer, Ish Moran, Bryan Kest, and Ted McDonald are just a few of the great instructors that teach here.

Center for Yoga

230 N LARCHMONT BLVD LOS ANGELES, CA 90004

Some complain that this yoga powerhouse isn’t the same since it was absorbed by the YogaWorks empire, but it still offers the most comprehensive schedule of classes around. You’ll be hard pressed to use the excuse “I don’t have the time” since they offer classes from about 6:30am to 9pm.

Bikram's Yoga College of India

1862 S La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90035

If you don’t enjoy getting a little sweaty, this is definitely NOT the place for you, because you will walk out of a Bikram class completely DRENCHED. Bikram yoga involves heating the room to over 100 degrees to allow the body to move more easily. So if you’re headed to Bikram bring lots o’ water and a large towel—many say the class leaves you feeling light-headed so exercise some caution.

Black Dog Yoga

4454 Van Nuys Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403

It might require severe willpower to go to this studio without succumbing to the meaty fumes of the nearby In-N-Out. But the classes are worth it. It’s a shame that Steve O’ Connor doesn’t teach more often, but there are a slew of other teachers who are just as awesome: Jenny Brill, Margaret Buckley, and Peter Barnett, just to name a few.

Liberation Yoga

124 S La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036

Doing yoga at Liberation is like doing yoga at a friend’s house, the owners Christine and Gary are super friendly and magically seem to remember everyone’s name! The 1/2 classes are beginner friendly (they also offer intros to yoga for complete newbies), so if you’re looking for a faster paced class step up to the 2/3 class.

Golden Bridge Yoga

6322 De Longpre Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028

This Hollywood studio is more than just a yoga studio—it also houses a vegetarian cafe! But GBY isn’t just about whipping people into shape and filling them up with veggie fare, they are seriously committed to the spiritual aspects of the practice, so much so that they are a self-described “spiritual village.” So if you’re looking to get in touch with your spiritual side through Kundalini yoga, this is your place.
