We've all seen them. Tapered blue jeans hugging our mom's ankles, high waisted, making their bottoms look, FLAT. It might be our own mothers, or mothers we see at the grocery store, or on the street. Now they are dominating our fashion magazines once again. Regardless, they are out there. If you see one out and about, please stop her to snap a photo or to inform her how FABULOUS she looks! But never tell her she is wearing The Mom Pants, because she will say, "There is nothing wrong with my pants!"

In this guide I will explain where the mom pants originated and why moms all across America are wearing them. This phenomenon has swept over middle America and for a while only suburban moms were caught wearing them. Now they can even be seen now in Hollywood and New York!

I will also talk about whether or not we should continue to let the pants thrive or ban them.

*Note: if you are a mom, please do not get offended.

Apparently celebrities are turning into their mothers

Women at some point in their lives turn into their mothers. Why not begin with the pants? Mischa Barton is sporting her pair while shopping in Hollywood.

Rihanna even...

The high waist accentuates the lower abdomin. Especially if you have a pooch.

What we can do to end the trend

1. Buy your mom a gift card to the Gap, Ann Taylor Loft, or any store you think will dress her appropriately.

2. Make sure you burn the pants once they have left her body.

3. If you see them in a fashion magazine, its ok to rip the page out and stomp on it.

4. Let’s say you see a tourist on the street sporting the jeans. Calmly walk over to her and say, “Do you mind taking those off.”

5. Don’t be mean. There is no need for negativity. Let’s just rid the world of them.

Mom Jeans

How to move around in mom jeans, doing the mom dance.

Mom pants are back!

For a while now, I have noticed a trend among moms in every city I have ventured to. Across the United States, a trend was begun in the 1980’s as a high waisted, tight, slim fitting style. Later, these same women who once had trim figures grew older in the 90’s and continued to buy the high, waisted jeans. However, as their sizes increased, so did the jeans. Today, we see them in grocery stores, restaurants, kitchens, offices, on our streets, tour buses, and now in our fashion magazines. Most of these moms have realized that shopping at Anne Taylor Loft would be great fashion move. Most are still in denial (my mom).

As usual though, history repeats itself and the mom pants are back. Why? Celebrities have been caught wearing jeans from their mom’s closets, I mean from ugh… top designers bringing back this “vintage” look.

I think one should wear whatever they desire. However, I don’t know if this is one style we can bring back. It is still rampant throughout the mom community and it is not making a change in style.

Better than the Mom Jean? The Mom Jean Cut-Off. Tall on top, short on the bottom.
