Office Pranks

I'm kind of an anomaly because I've never had an office job, never had a cube/desk to call my own. No complaints here, but I feel like I miss out on the good stuff about offices. Not the office politics, not the bland-looking break rooms, not the memos. But mainly, the pranks. Every time I watch "The Office," which I realize is NOT most offices, I look dreamily at Jim, laugh at everything Dwight says and does, and a little part of me wishes I understood that kind of workplace. What office pranks have YOU come up with or been the target of?

Jim versus Dwight

“He put my stuff in jell-o again!” It almost makes me want to work in an office…

Key Switcher

If you have a pecking typer (using one finger instead of the correct fingers on the correct keys) this one will turn their day from rainbows to hail storm. Carefully pop out a few keys from their keyboard and pop them back in somewhere else. Make the D an O, make the P a C…
Sit back and watch the hilarity unfold.

Baked Potatoes aren't funny?

My office pranks are few and far between, but I used to work at my college’s library and, while I didn’t work IN the office, my bosses did. (I was on the front line! Where all the action is! Er…I checked out books).
One time when we were working after hours without any supervision (bad news if Alicia is in charge, people!) a co-worker/friend of mine took the leftover baked potatoes from a library function and decided to do a little decorating. We did some carving, impaled the spuds with things and placed them on everyone’s desks.
Yeah…so, guess what? They were NOT amused the next day. I think we pretended we didn’t do it. My co-worker would eventually get fired because she never showed up for work and never did work while there. Lesson: do your job well (like me), play later, and you’re less likely to get in trouble when you adorn everyone’s desk with cold tubers.

Seeing Spuds

Whoever did this, I think we are kindred spirits!

I used to use this prank when I was a little girl… God knows why my dad even left this in the house… Anyway, I would call everyone and use a creepy, really low and slow voice and scare the crap out of people… Be careful though… Some people act fast!

Rig Your Co-Worker's Chair

Hi-larious, right? Watch him as he goes to sit down for your morning meeting and oops, his chair flips over! This is one you’ll be laughing at for years to come. You should probably have “911” ready to go on your phone though, just in case.

Use Twitter to Mess With Your Colleague

Widget_cti7gy-kvpvk-uhbzuzc5e

A friend told me that at his old job there was a colleague, let’s call him, Tom Shine, who was obsessed with searching his name on Google….

So, what the crew did was start a Twitter account about Tom Shine… which noted what Tom was doing at all times of the day. Examples: “Tom just walked by my desk” “Tom just went to the men’s room” “Tom just blew his nose.”

Multiple people took part in the Tweets, and it wasn’t too long until the name, Tom Shine, via Twitter, got to the second position on Google when Tom searched his name.

When Tom searched his name and found the Twitter trail… there was no laughing and he went right to HR.

Total Office style!
