Obsessed with Sushi in Boston
I'm a bit obsessed with sushi. And I definitely have some of my favorite Boston spots for chowing down on the raw fish. But there are SO many sushi places, sometimes it's overwhelming trying to choose a new one to visit. So I end up going to the same spots over and over again. What are your favorite sushi spots? What do you like to order? And what are the prices like? Tell me everything I need to know about where I should be eating my next sushi dinner.
Douzo is amazing. Douzo is awesome. Douzo is a bit expensive, but worth every penny when you put each delectable bite of sushi in your mouth. I wish I could afford to go here more often, but since I can’t, I savor every time I can. Try to sit on the lower level of the restaurant; it’s much more private and seems to be a whole different atmosphere than near the door.

Oh, hi Douzo. Why yes, I’d love to have a seat. Thank you very much. Now feed me!!
GinGa
1393 Beacon St. Brookline, MA 02446
GinGa is a fairly new sushi restaurant in the Coolidge Corner area. At first I was skeptical; the place is tiny and not much to look at. But then I went and LOVED it. The people who work here are super nice and always give complimentary food. One time it was absolutely amazing torched salmon and another it was edamame.
The rolls here are huge and deliciously fresh. I live super close so GinGa is not only perfectly delicious, but so so convenient!
Here is an eel and avocado roll and spicy tuna roll from GinGa. Look at how pretty they made the plate!! You can’t help but love a restaurant that pays attention to detail like that.
Suishaya
2 Tyler Street Boston, MA 02111
Suishaya is no doubt the most underrated sushi place in Boston. I love this place because of their variety… they have everything from simple rolls, to rolls you’ve never seen or heard of before, like a KING CRAB ROLL! They also are open for “late night” like most place in Chinatown, and offer their lunch menu from 10-2AM every night of the week. The people here are super nice and the restaurant is very clean, unlike a lot of places in Chinatown! Go here, you won’t be disappointed!
Ma Soba is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurant in Beacon Hill. I lived in Beacon Hill for two years and never went to Ma Soba until Susie raved about it. I had no idea what I was missing out on! The sushi itself is GOOD, not amazing… but their two/three combination entrees are a really good value! They also have a good wine list.

Spicy Tuna Roll
I normally order a Spicy Tuna Roll when I get sushi, but ALWAYS do whenever I’m trying somewhere new. I feel like the Spicy Tuna Roll is a really good indicator as to how the rest of the items on the menu are… if the STR is good, everything else will probably be good! PS- Kind of have the same philosophy for vanilla/vanilla cupcakes!
After having my sushi virginity taken care of by Whole Foods, I shot all the way to the top of the sushi food chain with a fabulous dining experience at Fugakyu. The key to my great meal here was going with 2 sushi experts who ordered everything. I just sat back, drank sake, and ate what was put in front of me. Yum!

OK…don’t hate. But my first sushi experience was right here at Whole Foods (known as “Bread & Circus” at the time). My best friend (and roommate at the time) is Korean, and after already existing on a college diet of seaweed wrapped in rice (courtesy of care packages sent from her mom), I was ready to try the (safe and boring) cucumber maki rolls. Then, I quietly moved onto the spicy tuna rolls. And the rest, my friends, is history.

No, it really doesn’t count as sushi. But cucumber maki is the best place to start for any sushi virgin.
