I LOVE key lime pie, but I HATE cheesecake.

Why does no one believe me when I tell them that I hate cheesecake? Why do they think I just haven’t had the RIGHT cheesecake? Why do they insist on giving me a piece of their cheesecake or the cheesecake at this, their favorite place to get cheesecake?
I just don’t like it. It doesn’t matter how much chocolate or creme brulee or cherry or butterscotch or lemon or ricotta or peanut butter you put in it, it is still cheesecake and I still don’t like it. I don’t care if your great-grandmother gave you the recipe on her deathbed or if your cafe has built its reputation on it or if it doesn’t really taste like regular cheesecake.
It’s cheesecake and I don’t like it. I don’t like the tang, I don’t like the richness, I don’t like the texture. If I wanted to bite into a brick of aged cream cheese I would, thank you very much.
BUT, I LOVE key lime pie! I tried it for the first time this year at Deluxe – a diner in NYC on Broadway – and I was overcome with happiness. The sweetness of the graham cracker crust, the lightness of the moussey pie filling, the soft lime flavor topped with airy whipped cream. Now THAT is my kind of dessert.
