Home is Where Nashvegas Is

I recently went to my hometown of Nashville, Tennessee for the holidays. It's still the music capital of the world and home to the best coffee in this country. When I go home it's never the same. This city is growing and will continue to as long as country music lives and the mamas keep up their southern cookin'. This guide is dedicated to my home town and favorite city in the south. Ya'll don't know what your missin' if you've never been! Here's what I call home...
Country Music USA
I have to be honest, I hated country music growing up! Now that I’m away from it, I miss those southern twangs and the sound of those beautiful fiddles.
Yep, this is where all the greats began. Right here in Nashville, TN. I am proud to say that I am from a city so dedicated to music.
Feelin' Sinful?
There is a church on EVERY corner here in Nashville. If you need to repent, just walk in one and you’re golden.
Patsy Cline
Patsy is my favorite classic country music singer. They just don’t make ’em like they used to.
Sadly, her career came to an end way too early, but she set the standard for female country artists to follow.
Home to Andrew Jackson
Yes, we hold on to every piece of history here. Andrew Jackson resided at his home, The Hermitage, before and after his presidency.
My mother lives only streets away from Andrew Jackson’s crib. Yes, I am a proud southerner and we take day trips here. (There is no where else to go in the town of Hermitage, TN). Plus, it’s still beautiful!
The Country Music Hall of Fame
How could I leave this out? I mean people flock to Nashville just to see old guitars, jackets, and plaques in glass cases.
This place is HUGE and is worth visiting! At least to see how ridiculous those rhinestone jackets are!
Another guide, paying tribute to Nashvegas.
Mama and Papa are Everywhere
Lookin’ for some good Southern’ cookin’? Look around this site, I’ve listed a few. These mom and pop places are every where you go! They sure do make ya feel at home!!
Loveless Cafe
They have the BEST homemade jams and biscuits in this country! Believe me, I’ve tried a lot of biscuits and these are truly the BEST!
Converted into a restaurant, this once motel housed thousands along Nashville’s Highway 100. Along the walls of this old country cookin’ restaurant, are pictures of country stars and rock bands, smiling with biscuits in hand.

Best Coffee In The South
This is basically the place I flock to FIRST, once I’m home, to grab a beautiful cup of coffee. Full of Nashville hipsters and young musicians Fido is both coffee house and restaurant.
There is a dog theme here, in case you haven’t picked that up.
Dog biscuits are sold for your furry companions and a wall outside the cafe honors those with names such as Sparky, Ralph, and Mittens.
If you don’t have a dog, no worries you can order the doggie style grilled cheese if you so desire.

Why Is It Called Nashvegas?
Why NOT call it Nashvegas? This city was built on the Cumberland River, sweat, love, and a whole lot of country music!
The Grand Ole Opry Stage
The greats of country music began here at the Grand Ole Opry. To only name a few:
Minnie Pearl
Hank Williams
Jimmy Dickens
Loretta Lynn
Patsy Cline
Jonny Cash
Picture hundreds of country music fans in these seats. If you’ve never experienced the Opry, then GO! I say GO NOW! Even if you loath country music.
In honor of cigarettes. Back in the day when it was OK to sing about ’em.
Athens Of The South
We have our very own Parthenon! Also included with the goddess Athena, built in the 1920’s!
A bit of history here in case you’re interested:
Nashville is known as the Athens of the South. This is due to the fact that by the 1850’s, there were already numerous established higher education institutions in the city.
That means we’re real smart!
On Broadway...
This is Nashville’s Broadway! Yeeehawww! Located directly downtown. Yep, this is where you go when country honkee tonk bars are all that’s on your mind. You can find karaoke bars, beer halls, and Bar-B-Q.
It’s possible you will be discovered here. Yes, it’s true. People have been discovered singing their own songs in these little bars.
I’ve tried a few times, but I was booed away for singing my Indie pop songs. Oh well…
Just go here and laugh! This place is awesome! There are so many old country singer wannabees here, that you could create an entire one act play based on character studies from Tootsies.

Elvis Presley
Nope, just kidding! Elvis was from Memphis, but from Tennessee nonetheless.
Don’t forget we have a show named after us! I thought about auditioning, but that means I’d have to be famous and I just don’t think the world is ready for me yet. I wouldn’t mind living in Nashville again, but just not with my parents, ok?

I am not loyal to any one place that serves up coffee. I like to hop around from place to place until I have found the perfect cup of coffee, or at least until my heart gives out.
I love to poke fun at people, places, and circumstance. You can be a Coffee Slut too. Let's chat over a cup...
