To pack or not to pack

Before you move it is wise to decide what you really need. It does not make sense to pack things that you have not used in months.

Normally you will come across papers that you have filed away for a rainy day. Make sure these are documents you really need and not just that you are a pack rat.

Try to figure out what toys your kids do not play with or have outgrown. Donate any unused toys to a charity like toys for tots. Have a talk with your kids explaining that they no longer need the toys and there are kids that do not have any toys at all.

Worn furniture that is beyond repair does not make sense to move. If you are able to get new furniture delivered to your new home then throw away the old. This way you save on the movers time and you also save space for stuff you really need in the truck.

Moving Checklist

An ideal moving checklist will have a “move file” that shall be having a check on all the different amenities that are required when you decide to make a move. It shall have a receipt of all the information that is required when you will be moving from one place to another. There is another checklist that will be prepared containing a chart of the expenses. You can make contact with the local chamber of commerce. The checklist usually consists of a plan, of the new home, so that you can start deciding, about the manner in which the goods will be packed. The moving checklist shall also include a budget within which all matters are required to be settled. Moving checklists are usually prepared on weekly basis that gives a glimpse of the work that is to be performed, so that there are no last minute rushes. It is usually prepared on the basis of time span, such as two weeks before the move, a week before the move and on similar grounds.

Certain items are present in the moving checklist that requires special kind of attention. These can be emergency items such as stopping the services of milk and newspaper. This is required to be made in the last few days, as they are essential items, which cannot be stopped earlier. They can not also be continued for an indefinite period, and hence they form an important place in the checklist. Gas and electricity is also included in the checklist so that they are not left, as these are some of the most essential items. Prepare your floor plan

Preparing your floor plan is actually the fun part of moving. It is exciting to use your imagination to create the setting for your new home.

Praparing the floor plan includes things such as where should you place your couch and entertainment center to make it look good or for the maximum amount of room. Maybe you would rather arrange your floor plan in a fung shui fashion.

No matter how you plan out the look of your new home you should put it on paper. This way you have a reference point to look at whenever things get confusing. It will also help you when marking your boxes. That way the movers can take the boxes to that specific room or spot.

Moving with your pet

Sometimes it can be complicated when moving with a pet. Aside from having to update vet records, you may have a pet that the law requires you to register with the state and you have to notify them of the change in address.

If you have a dog walker or a pet caregiver they will need to be notified so they can start coming to the new addess.

If you are traveling with a caged pet make sure the cage is secured. Sometimes pets such as birds can get out if a door were loose. You are responsible for any pets that cause damage or harm anyone also.

You may have to retrain your pet for the new home. If they were house broken and suddenly their restroom were moved they may not adjust so easily.

Introduce your neighbors to your pet. This is a good way to prevent any trouble if your dog is barking at night. They would knock or call before they called the police because they have a relationship with you and your pet.

Spend time with your pet in the new home to make sure he/she has adjusted to the new surroundings. This will ensure that they stay house broken.
