Momma's the STAR: Movies for Mother's Day
I'm a little embarrassed to say that I haven't always been the VISION of "perfect" child when it comes to celebrating Mother's Day. If anything,it's a holiday that can tend to get overlooked. So this year, my Mother and I are going to spend the day vegging out, drinking mimosa's, snacking on treats and bonding over some Mother/Child type of movies. Even though our Mother's often get overlooked, these filmmakers made the Mother's the STARS:
MERMAIDS
The first time I saw this film I was convinced that Cher would be the best Mother in the world.
Steel Magnolias
Obviously, a classic option. This movie will have you and your Mother clutching each other crying and spewing years worth of unsaid adoration.
Because I Said So
Who doesn’t love Diane Keaton? This is the classic portrayal of a Mother/daughter relationship lacking boundaries, all out of unconditional love.
Georgia Rule
Lindsay Lohan doesn’t necessarily have the best example of a Mother in real life, so the closest she was going to get was on film. Poor thing.
Freaky Friday
This may be a film for the younger Mother’s Day gift giver, or for the Mother’s with young daughers. Boys, this probably won’t be your favorite, even though it is a good film. (Sh, don’t tell anyone I said it.)
Raising Helen
What happens when an aunt has to step into the role as “Mom.” Kate Hudson would be a RADICAL Mother, adopt me? Or can we at least be friends….
Erin Brockovich
A true story of a single Mother’s journey to support her children and bring down a power company polluting California’s water.
Where the Heart Is
Before Natalie Portman was all into serious and indie films she made some real tearjerkers.
Hope Floats
Sandra Bullocks relationship with her Mother in this film is so endearing and watching her take care of her little girl after a rough divorce is something that I’m sure hits home for single or divorced Mother’s everywhere.
What are the perfect components for a movie night with Ma??
Terms of Endearment
My Mother forced me to watch this movie and sure enough, against my own will by the end of it I was bawling. And the sequel is not for the weak hearted
Anywhere but Here
Sometimes your Mother may have her own agenda and dreams, but you love her anyway. This is the perfect example of that.
White Oleander
Based on the book by Janet Finch, this is a twisted mother/daughter relationship but nevertheless one that all out of a distorted version of what it means to love your child.
Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood
Films about girl bonding, struggles, laughter, all that cheese, are going to be a popular hit with Mom. Yes boys, Ma would love to get this film as a gift.
Step Mom
…..they’re not all evil. Disney lied.
Riding in Cars with Boys
So Drew Barrymore may not be the best version of what a Mother should represent, but she does her best, a feeling most Mothers can certainly relate to.
One True Thing
Renee Zellweger and Meryl Streep that’s what I call perfect casting and superb acting.
Forrest Gump
Sally Field is films all time most awesome Mother. If you watch Brothers and Sisters on ABC you’ll agree with me.
JUNO
Not the average “Mother” film, and that’s exactly what’s so charming about it. You can leave the Kleenex out of the picture also, only laughs here.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE "MOM" MOVIES???
Throw Momma from the Train
Danny De Vito plays a loner who tries to get his English teacher (Billy Crystal) to kill his mother. Anne Ramsey is hilarious as the evil mother. “You clumsy poop!”
