Mother's Day Gifts For Geeky Moms
It seems like every year it gets harder to pick out a great gift for Mother's Day. This year my mom is embracing her inner geek so I thought I'd help her along by picking out a few geektastic items she's sure to love.
Mr. Brightside
This would totally be something a new-to-tech mom would use. It’s a USB nightlight for a laptop. I don’t know why you’d need to light up the keypad – wouldn’t the glow from the screen handle that? Regardless it’s a cute geeky trinket that will make mom’s life that much easier, even if it is all in her head…At least you’ll have The Killers in your head after picking one up.
Check out the other nifty products that Bigger and Brighter has to offer.
Take her shopping
I recently accompanied my mom and stepdad at the AT&T store while they picked out new phones. My mom is so used to having a flip phone that when I had her try a BlackBerry she said that it felt like she was “hold a calculator to her ear.” She needs me.
Help her pick out a brand new phone or foot the bill for some cute accessories to go with her existing phone. She’ll appreciate spending time with you as well as the help.
Password Keeper
I’m a bit wary of this product, but it’s too cute not to include. I’d hope that mom would be responsible enough not to lose this precious piece of Internet identity. If you think she’s up for the challenge, this is a great tool for her to store all of her passwords. Chances are mom doesn’t know much about encryptions and what not. Just remind her to keep this in a very safe place!
Working Girl's Survival Kit
More times than not, mom usually comes prepared whether it’s a band-aid or a piece of gum. This handy-dandy survival kit has everything a mom would need: including, oothbrush, Toothpaste, Dental floss, Lip Balm, Mints, Pain Reliever, Hand Lotion, Emery Board, Nail Clipper, Clear Nail Polish, Nail Polish Remover, Hair Brush, Mirror, Deodorant, Tampons, Lint Remover, Mending Kit, Stain Remover, Static Remover, Shoe Shine Wipes, Adhesive Bandages, and Facial Tissue.
See Jane Work has a fantastic collection of home and office organization items. The colors are vibrant and the products are fun. Be sure to check out their eco-friendly office section!
Mom-O-Matic!
Mom-O-Matic helps mom’s who are sick and tired of saying the same thing over and over. Now all mom has to do is press a button and the Mom-O-Matic will handle the rest.
Phrases include: “Not in your mouth, sweetie”, “I don’t care what he did”, “It’s not your turn, honey”, “Do you think Daddy could do it?” “Just a second, Honey” and if all else fails- the red emergency button declares: “Look, a pony!”.
The site is mostly made up of cool things for kids, but there are some fun gifts mixed in.
Giftcards
Mom’s aren’t into illegally downloading music so help her fill up her iPod with some tunes! Apple sells gift cards in every amount imaginable. Take a look at all of the fun designs, too!
If you wanted to be really sneaky, put together a Mother’s Day playlist and upload it onto her iPod when she’s not around.
MP3 Player
With the economy the way it is, it isn’t always feasible to buy an iPod. JCPenny currently has these 1GB MP3 players on sale for $19.99. They hold about 250 songs and has a clip (think iPod Shuffle) for those long walks or early morning workouts.
2GB MP3 Video
JCPenny is also offering this MP3 Video Player at the discounted price of $29.99. It holds photos, videos and up to 500 songs. It also has a voice recorder, which might come in handy while making lists, remembering where you parked or the song she just HAS to download.
Mom Agenda Family Planner
This is especially helpful if you have a big family. Coordinating and remembering everyone’s schedule is a time-consuming and nearly impossible task at times. The Multi-Schedule layout gives you space to include everyone’s daily plans. The magnet backing makes it easy to post the Family Planner on the fridge, a steel file cabinet, or your magnetic bulletin board.
