Mezcall

3230 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80206

Sean Yontz’s first and most popular Mexican restaurant, located on Colfax, has a following that makes frequent trips for the food and drink served here. The tequila list rivals the best in Mexico and the food is really unique. Excellent tacos, mole enchiladas, and my favorite…sopes, make for a small but well rounded menu. Also try the salmon for something special or the Tampiqueno, which let’s you eat skirt steak and a mole enchilada with rice and beans. Be hungry!

Lola

Not your traditional Mexican restaurant, but definite Latin influences and Mexico City inspiration go into each and every dish. The table side guacamole is a must, as well as the coin margaritas and Mexican brunch. A little pricier than what you’d expect, but definitely creative and the execution and preparation are worth the price. Be sure to ask for salsa as it doesn’t come standard with your chips.

A Denver staple among families, couples, friends, gays, straights, tall and short alike. Benny’s isn’t the best Mexican food I’ve ever had, but I love the grilled chicken tacos, the margaritas are strong, and the atmosphere is fun and casual. Think burritos, nachos, and enchiladas…standard Mexican fare.

Tambien

250 STEELE ST DENVER, CO 80206

Executive Chef Sean Yontz also owns Tambien, new to Cherry Creek, and the little sister to Tambien. I am crazy for the queso fundido…a white cheese casserole with jalapenos and chorizo that is simply decadent, but something to treat yourself with when you really deserve it. Great margaritas and a late night happy hour make this spot popular for late night crowds.

La Pasadita Inn

1959 Park Ave Unit A, Denver, CO 80218

I fell in love with La Pasadita the first time I walked in the door of this tiny, family run Mexican joint. Cash only. Seat yourself. No big smiles or frills here. You can expect real cheese, tasty margaritas, enchiladas and flautas or tacos, fajitas and more. Soemthing for everyone and a nice patio for afternoon cocktails. One of my favorite spots for good Mexican here in town.

Santiagos Mexican Restraunt

571 Santa Fe Dr, Denver, CO 80204

Among Mexican food addicts here in Denver, Santiago’s is argued to have the best and hottest green chili around. Known for scrumptious breakfast burritos, smothered or plain, and authentic Mexican tastes in every order, Santiago’s has several locations for whenever you need your green chile fix.

Tamayo Restaurant

1400 Larimer St, Denver, CO 80202

Modern Mexican is how this restaurant describes itself, and the meals deliver. The Carne Asada dishes are outstanding with the perfect amount of heat and spices to give it it’s flavor. Cilantro, avocado and other fresh ingredients make this restaurant a stand-out. If weather is permitting, ask to sit on the rooftop patio with an excellent view of downtown and the city.

Want one of the best, honest, Mexican tacos in town? Try Tacos Y Salsas. Simply perfection. No frills. Just deliciously prepared chicken, beef, carnitas, tortillas, cilantro, and a salsa bar with the freshest salsas around. Cheap eats never tasted so good.

Brewery Bar II

150 Kalamath St, Denver, CO 80223

This hole in the wall is a drinker’s fantasy come true. Cold beer and a bar full of booze with really good Mexican food? Order the Chile Relleno and an ice cold beer, sit back, and relax. My one complaint is the chips and salsa…I’d bet money they are Tostitos and Pace Picante. You could not ask for a friendlier, more casual atmosphere for an afternoon lunch. Not really a family atmosphere, however, so leave the kiddos at home.

I have really fond memories of Santiago’s breakfast burritos from high school. So very cheap and spicy as anything if you don’t get them mild! Unfortunately, I went vegetarian and now every time I drive by the location near my place I regret it, just a little.
