Has dating gone to the dogs?
If you ask people what animals men are like, the most likely answer is going to be a dog. For me this is not a a bad answer because everyone knows dogs are a mans best friend. But really, dogs are loyal, fun, to cuddle with, and when you want to go out with your friends, cant call you all night on your cell phone. So my problem isn’t that men are dogs but rather: which dog is my man like? I’ve dated all kinds of men and let me tell you, breeds matter!
The Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is probably the most family friendly and loyal type you will find. He will be the guy that rings the doorbell and asks your father’s permission in taking you out. He will get along with all your friends and always remember your birthday. He will never say no to some extra cuddling time and while he can be a bit shaggy, is always immaculately groomed. He is the guy we all want to date because he’s athletic and smart. No accidents for this charmer, he is the guy you can take to a fancy dinner or to the beach. This is the guy parent’s dreams are made of and that most girls call their “Mr. Right”. He’s the Patrick Dempsey character in sweet Home Alabama.
The Chihuahua
This is the short guy with the big bark. He is hyper, excited, and that can be a good or bad thing depending on the situation. Sure when he’s making all your friends laugh and has energy enough for 10 at the club on a Saturday night, you can’t get enough of him. Then comes the next time you go out for dinner and he’s berating the waitress for making you wait on your reservations and you arrived 5 minutes early. Not so fun.
Pugs, definitely pugs!
I don’t have pets and don’t really like pets, but the animal I have considered taking care of is a pug. I would loooooooove that pug. Turns out, I also date pugs:
“The stern expression of the Pug belies its true sense of fun. Pugs are sociable dogs, and usually stubborn about certain things, but they are playful, charming, clever and are known to succeed in dog obedience skills. Pugs are sensitive to the tone of a human voice, so harsh punishment is generally unnecessary. While Pugs usually get along well with other dogs and pets, they generally prefer the company of humans and require a great deal of human attention; they may become slightly anxious or agitated if their owner ignores them or does not play with them. In general, they are very attentive dogs, always at their owner’s feet, in their lap, or following them from room to room.”
Yep, that about sums it up. Sort of happy at the core, but a sadness/melancholy in their face. Sensitive, stubborn, social but preferring one-on-one, clever, charming, etc.
The Rottweiler
The Rottweiler is exactly what “appearances can be deceiving” is all about. This gentle giant looks tough on the outside but is one big baby when you get up close. He looks tough and you expect an action movie when you let him pick for your Friday night date. Instead he picks that romantic comedy you thought you’d have to see with your girlfriends and actually shushes you when you start to whisper. This guy can fix your car, scare off any unwanted suitors, and still know how to surprise you with flowers. A guy who can protect you and still need some protecting himself is hard to resist, so why bother?
The Poodle
Oh not just man are dogs, there’s that special kind of girl who also fits in this category. She shops all day, is scared to break a nail, high fashion labels are her best friends. You know the kind, the one everyone calls…..high maintenance. She can never go out without her makeup on, even if it’s just to get her morning latte. The girl that calls you 6 times to make sure you remember your 3 day anniversary and that her gift includes diamonds. All your friends hate her even though they secretly want to date her behind your back and date;s with her are the reason you start working overtime.
So now you know what I think about men, but what do you think? Have you dated this kind or found breeds of your own? Which ones do you rescue and which ones do you send off “to the farm”?
The Dachshund
Okay okay okay….they have short legs and are disproportionately long (that’s what she said) but stay with me for a second.
All these little guys want to do is be loved. There is nothing more important to them besides snuggling and there is nothing that will pull them away from a good cuddle…except for vocally defending you of course.
With a big-boy bark in a small-boy body, the dachshund is loyal, intensely focused on everything that you do, and fits conveniently under your arm like the perfect night-out clutch.
I think your decision has been made.
