Los Feliz Loves Breakfast

Share on StumbleUpon Add to del.icio.us Share on Facebook

I don't know if it's because of the concentrated population of young people who like to drink and therefore frequently find themselves hungover and in need of a mimosa and some eggs or if it's just because it's delicious, but one thing is for sure: Los Feliz Loves Breakfast more than Joanie Loves Chachie. Saturday and Sunday mornings can mean waiting up to 45 minutes for a table at some of the more popular joints, but any of these places are sure to sate your morning(ish) munchies.

Home Restaurant

1760 Hillhurst Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90027

Mention Breakfast in Los Feliz and this is likely the first place that will pop up. Situated in a house on Hillhurst Ave., have a seat on the sprawling patio that’s enveloped in lush vegetation (though maybe not too close to the central fountain with the koi in it—it always smells a little fishy) and enjoy breakfast all day. Home’s omelets and scrambles are always fresh and packed full of fresh veggies and high quality meats. There is also traditional sweeter fare like fluffy waffles and pancakes with fresh fruit and for the crunchy granola types, they have that too. And of course the best part of a weekend breakfast: mimosas!

Stop by during the week for their bargain breakfast specials. If it rains on your al fresco meal, they even offer a discount.

Home also has tasty lunch and dinner options, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Fred's 62

1850 N Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90027

Another Los Feliz staple, Fred’s 62 is a diner with a distinctly hipster twist. Open 24 hours (one of few non-Denny’s places where you can chow down all night), you can get classic greasy-spoon treats with contemporary twists, like round bread and frilly toothpicks.

As scrumptious as the food is, the eye candy is sure to be just as tasty, especially if you stop in after last call.

Fred 62, The Dime Bag

This Fred 62 breakfast is called The Dime Bag. You can be sure I have no idea what that is referring to.

Wakey Wakey, Eggs and Applesmoked Bakey!

Green Leaves Vegan

1769 Hillhurst Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90027

Serving wheat-free, gluten-free pancakes and Egz (really tofu) all day in various forms, this vegan restaurant is where it’s at if you’re vegan. I guess. I’m going to take a wild guess and say that the wait for Egz might be significantly shorter than the wait for eggs across the street at Home.

Check out their menu for the whole array of animal-free foods.

Figaro Cafe Restaurant

1802 N Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90027

With a menu in French to compliment the Parisian atmosphere, Figaro Cafe in the heart of the Vermont Ave. scene will take you away when you squeeze in for breakfast. The morning menu is heavy on egg dishes, but try the strawberry crepes if you’re looking for something with a little je ne sais quoi. Oh, no I do know quoi: a sweet, light and delicious breakfast!

Square One Dining

4854 Fountain Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90029

Heralded as “gourmet” and an “indulgence”, this cafe on Fountain offers any egg dish you can imagine in fresh and friendly form: including their signature Baked Eggs, braised or fritattat’d or even with chorizo.

Caprese omelette

Caprese omelette from Alcove

Alcove Cafe & Bakery

1929 Hillhurst Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90027

In addition to breakfast, Los Feliz also loves a good patio and the one at Alcove rivals the one at Home, though you don’t expect your mom to come walking out the front door at this cafe & bakery. Instead, you’ll order at the counter (with amazing efficiency) and then watch other plates piled high with leafy greens or fluffy eggs until yours finally comes out and you wonder if you should have ordered whatever it was that just got set down across from you. Huge portions make up for the fact that Alcove is a bit pricier than most breakfast places.

And you won’t be able to resist the decadent pastries on display at the front, so just get a massive slice to go.

Los Feliz Patries & Cafe

3070 Los Feliz Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90039

Formerly EATZ Cafe, Los Feliz Pastries & Cafe is located right next door to the Los Feliz 9 hole golf course and is convenient and quaint. Despite food that is not quite on par with the others on this list, it’s a great place great place to stop in after a shooting around. Is that even what they call it? Hitting around? Playing a round? Who cares, I’m hungry.

LA Bread

3119 Los Feliz Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90039

Close to EATZ on Los Feliz Blvd, this tiny bakery has a limited but classic and well-executed menu that includes some really awesome Eggs Benedict. Oh, and also Bread. They have lots of fresh, fragrant, carb-loaded, crusty bread. Don’t forget the bread.

Mmm. Carbs.

Ye Rustic Inn

1831 Hillhurst Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90027

This bar and pseudo-restaurant has a weekend brunch that’s never crowded. The food may not exactly rival the gourmet concoctions up the street, but there’s no wait and sometimes a dark bar and a Bloody Mary can be the start of a really great day. I’ve never had one of those times, but it’s possible.

A really classy place to take the person you shared a bed with last night.

Mustard Seed Cafe

1948 Hillhurst Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90027

This cozy storefront cafe offers simple but yummy breakfast treats on a menu sprinkled liberally with the words “natural” “organic” and “vegetarian.” You’ll have to wait on a weekend, unless you want to sit outside precariously close to the traffic on Hillhurst.
