Los Angeles is Burning Or, When Bad Religion Lyrics Come to Life
In case you weren't aware, there's currently a MASSIVE wildfire burning just north of Los Angeles. And while this isn't an unordinary occurrence in Southern California, it's still always a tragedy when wildfires rage in and around our city. And while this guide may be a little tongue-in-cheek at times, I have nothing but the utmost respect for the fire fighters who have been risking their lives to fight this fire.
What to Do In Case of Wild Fires:
Donate to the Red Cross
When people get evacuated from their homes, it’s usually the Red Cross that ends up helping them out. And since there’s been a recession going on, the Red Cross’ funds aren’t as extensive as they normally are, so if you’ve got some cash stuffed under your mattress and want a tax break, think about throwing some dough at the Red Cross.
American Red Cross
Always a good cause…
Listen to Smokey the Bear
Smokey says that only you can prevent forest fires, and he’s not lying when he says that. A lot of fires are caused by arson, so the next time you decide to show your friends how you can set your farts on fire, just make sure you’re not doing it next to a pile of dry brush.
Smokey the Bear
Smokey’s definitely got his work cut out for him…

Areas Affected by the "Station Fire"
Let’s hope they get this thing contained, AND fast!
The “Station Fire” got its name because it started near a ranger station in the Angeles National Forest. Recently, it was announced that arson is the suspected cause of the fire. Yikes!

The fire began just north of La Canada Flintridge. And as of Tuesday morning residents were allowed to return to their homes (phew!)

La Crescenta was one of the first cities to face evacuations, but life is still going on there— school even started! Although, the kids are not allowed to go outside for recess…

Most have heard of Pasadena because of the Tournament of Roses and Parade and the Rose Bowl. However, since the area is relatively close to the Station Fire, the air quality around the Rose Bowl, which is used for college football games, won’t be the best. So if you’re heading out there to watch some football, be prepared to come home smelling like an ashtray.

You might also want to add “poor air quality” to the list also…
Stay Indoors
Breathing in pollution is bad enough. Breathing in pollution AND smoke is just something you don’t want to do. So it’s best to keep those outdoor activities to a bare minimum. And yes, that means moving your trampoline indoors.
Wait Until the Winter Months To Use Illegal Fireworks and Engage in Other Reckless Behavior
Since the area around Los Angeles is so dry during the summer, you should really wait until Christmas, or at the very earliest Thanksgiving to set off those illegal fireworks— that means no celebratory Labor Day fireworks, people.
Evacuate When You Are Told to Do So
Because you don’t want to be THAT person that the fire department had to go in and save.
Don't Waste Water
Firefighters need that water to douse flames with, so don’t go wasting it on your Slip ’n Slide, or whatever it is you do.

Pray That's It's Just Burning and the Apocolypse Isn't Upon Us...
Because looking at that pillar of smoke rising above the city you’d expect to see four horsemen around the corner. Or something.
Station Fire
A big cloud of smoke rising above the city can’t be a good sign…
Pack Up and Move to Seattle
It rains SO much in Seattle that it can’t possibly catch on fire, right?
Seattle
Lovely and relatively wildfire-free.
Here’s a random news bite for you: Acton, CA is home to actress Tippi Hedren’s Shambala Animal Preserve, and interestingly enough the preserve is home to two tigers who used to belong to Michael Jackson, Thriller and Sabu. As on September 1, Hedren was preparing to evacuate the animals.

Glendale fire fighters have been hard at work trying to contain the Station Fire, but sadly it seems that more people were preoccupied with Michael Jackson’s funeral than more pressing matters, like oh say, a ginormous raging fire.

The fire has scorched the mountains above Sierra Madre, which going to be rather tragic for hikers who enjoy trekking along the trails in that area.
