What projects are you working on?
I work on the components that our products are based on. Destination Search and Traffic Director are the big ones.

What do you like about being an Engineer at Local Matters?
The ease of our process: I like the agile development cycle, the fact that it’s iterative, that we work with Java. Folks tend to share knowledge. Usually engineers aren’t social, but here there’s a degree of sociability in the group. We’re free to think and to experiment and that’s how I would define progressive.

What do you like about Local Matters?
It’s still a small company, there aren’t a lot of egos around. Folks here are very communicative, easygoing, low-stress, friendly, upbeat, positive. It’s a comfortable company to work at.

What would you tell someone interested in working here?
There’s a lot of support for growth and for people that want to know more. It’s not the place to work if you like monotony and to do the same thing over and over again. If you don’t want to challenge yourself, you don’t want to work here. I think I fit in well here because I like to teach myself things, so it’s perfect for me. There’s room for growth and there’s an opportunity to expand outside of your core knowledge. There’s a lot of knowledge here, so if there’s something you don’t know you can pretty much find it out by asking folks within the group.

Hear From Our Employees

We asked Local Matters employees what they loved, and here’s what they had to say:

What do you love about your projects?

“My favorite thing about working on most of our client facing projects so far is being able to interact with people from all over the world. Also, being exposed to the world of search technologies and learning more about SEO has been very interesting and rewarding.” Eric S., Information Architect for EDSA, Sensis and Trudon

“Projects are run using an agile approach, which means very close collaboration with other team members.  It makes the work easier, and we see results much more quickly than with a traditional approach.” Ross S., Search Engineer for Truvo

“The FAST Enterprise Search Platform allows us to provide search services customized to each customers language and preferences.” Michael G., Sr. Search Engineer for YPG NC and EDSA

What do you like about working at Local Matters?

“There is a great casual, laid back atmosphere in the Denver office but the team members are some of the most professional and experienced I’ve ever worked with – dedicated to putting out a great product. You also can’t beat the location of the office in downtown Denver and there’s always a chance you can travel abroad to work directly with clients.” Eric S., Information Architect

“Mostly the vibe — there’s lots of positive energy here — people actually enjoy their work!  I’ve been here for almost 5 years, and people have always been excited about the job. There are lots of opportunities to move up or around in the company, and the atmosphere is very laid back.” Ross S., Search Engineer

“I like that we are able to accomplish very large amounts of work without becoming a place where everyone just sits at their desk all day every day, not interacting with other people.” Michael G., Sr. Search Engineer

See Our Office

Sitting right on the edge of LoDo, the location of Local Matters is cool enough, but check out how incredible our office is. Completed in 1865, it used to serve as a coffin factory… but don’t worry, there are no ghosts here! Huge windows and a central atrium bring in plenty of natural light and give our office an open, airy feel.
