Kinda Obsessed With Foreign TV
I don't watch TV as much as I used to, thank a social life that starts at 7:30 p.m. for that one. Anyway, since I'm still cable-less and since DVDs are slowly filling my apartment, I get my hands on some random stuff from around the world. It doesn't begin and end with the BBC. Actually, I would call my obsession with foreign programming only the beginning. Drugs. Sex. Coffee. Nope. My addiction is random. Any and all of it...
Spaced
Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes birthed this amazing BBC series that ran for only two seasons in 1999 and 2001. Two freelancers hit their quarterlife crisises. So, what to do? Pose as a couple to rent out a dream apartment in London in the same building with a drunken landlord, an insane artist, and two friends. It’s pretty hilarious.
Summer Heights High
The next big thing brought to us by HBO, Summer Heights High was originally a huge hit in Australia. A film crew decides to make a documentary about the day-to-day life at a middle school. Wait, wait. It’s three focus subjects are… wait for it. A angry young man. A pre-adolescent girl. And – here it comes – a drama teacher. This thing is brilliant.
This show is fucking brilliant. These clips don’t do it justice.
I spent my college years desperately trying to get my hands on episodes of Absolutely Fabulous. I still find it hilarious.
Kids In The Hill
I don’t think I need to give much explanation. Kids In The Hall. Just freakin’ hilarious. It’s sad, but true people: all the funny ones are from Canada.
El Chavo
I got curious one day and thought “What’s the #1 sitcom of all time in Mexico?” One Google search later, I met El Chavo, a TV show about a homeless kid in a barrel. I have to admit, the show is funny. Mostly because I don’t understand a single word of it and it’s got a kid in a barrel.
Quite possibly one of the funniest shows ever.
Extras
Even though I keep flirting with cancelling our HBO to save a little bit of money, I love Ricky Gervais, and “Extras” is brilliant. Even though I’m slightly annoyed by his female sidekick.

Old school show from Ireland. You may not get the jokes of this if you’re not Irish or Catholic. Great show.
The Mighty Boosh
Just plain trippy and hilarious. Really cool sets and reoccurring characters. This started out as a radio show, but its soooo much better on your television.
