Jesus Makes Appearances in Ordinary Things

For better or worse (usually the latter), I am a bit off my rocker sometimes, living in my own little crazyland. Or as my parents say, I'm "very special" and "always the exception to the rule." I don't NEED additional help in achieving this state, so when I bolted up in bed this morning, awakening from a bad dream and saw the IMAGE OF JESUS in a plant on my radiator (seen here), I was concerned. (I've also been sick, had a fever, felt woozy at times, so there was that too...) I debated telling my parents (I'm home for a few days!) about my Jesus-face-sighting, cuz you know, I feared some sort of intervention if it was just me seeing things, but then I did tell them anyway. Maybe I DID need an intervention after all, and Jesus was telling me so? But you know what???? They saw it too! I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that I am now part of this particular group of peeps who have seen the image of Jesus in everyday, commonplace things. Should I feel lucky? I am not alone though, as many many people before your very own aliciak have seen the face of Jesus where they least expected it.

Do you see him???

*My sighting*

So…yeah. I semi-impulsively decided to travel back home to Pittsburgh because of being stuck in a funk in New York AND because of a certain playoff game happening there. The theme of my trip was “Alicia needs to get rejuvenated and needs to get her sh*t together.” A tall order…
What was my dream about? I’ve been watching a lot of old episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and one of the episodes is actually about the main characters finding a stain in the back of their bar that looks like the Virgin Mary. Oddly enough, my dream was NOT about this episode, but about another one where they are pondering killing and eating people. It was all really disturbing! There were also characters from The Office in the dream. I bolted up at the point where Dwight Schrute was killed and that’s when I noticed the plant.
These particular plants are actually called Christmas Cactus…

Jesus shows up on the ceiling of a camper

Of course he does. At first the camper dude thought the image looked like the Mona Lisa, but NO, it’s Jesus. This video is one of the funniest Youtube has to offer.

“If it were on a taco, it’d be worth a fortune.”

“He’s appearing in a beam of light.”

“He’s like a rocket Jesus.”

“It’s a great Jesus.”

“I’d be scared except that I take it as a good omen.”

Jesus appears in bird poop

What’s sad about this one is that the guy who took the video is religious and excited about it, has a baby who makes a cute appearance, adorably has trouble focusing the camera and is 100% sincere, genuine, normal and nice-sounding. But when he does focus on it? It doesn’t really look like Jesus. :(

Jesus in the shower

Seen by a guy in Pittsburgh! And then he gets the piece of plaster removed, or as he puts it, “Shower Jesus has been freed from the wall!” and sells it on ebay for $1,999 to the goldenpalace.com people. Oh Pittsburgh…

The Virgin Mary Grilled Cheese that started it all

Widget_ap9zy3jaljrqvlxtju95dq

I’m not sure what I mean by “started it all,” but the example above is probably the earliest newsy piece we remember regarding the sighting of religious figures in ordinary things. It also happened to be the one that fetched $28,000 on ebay.

Diane Duyser's Virgin Mary in Grilled Cheese sighting

In 1994, she went to take a bite, saw the image and hollered for her husband! Diane then put it in a plastic box surrounded by cotton balls and for ten years it sat. And did NOT get moldy or change. Hmm. Enter ebay.
Goldenpalace.com, an internet casino buys the grilled cheese in 2004, saying, “We will definitely use the sandwich to raise money for charity, and we hope it will raise people’s spirits as well.” Interesting. Charity or not, they also purchased Britney Spears’ pregnancy test and William Shatner’s kidney stone. Something tells me it’s more about the shock and awe of these objects more than anything….

Jesus in a potato

I’m not sure of their particular religion, but Renee Brewster is a Pastor and her husband Winston is a Bishop. She was dreading making potato salad and thought to herself, “Lord, if it’s not for me to make potato salad then send me a sign.”

I think you know how the rest of the story goes…

Jesus in a Cheeto, or "Cheesus"

Found by a youth minister at a Methodist Church with reporting by a local news crew, this is one of the more smarter discussions on what it means to find Jesus in everyday things:

“If you’re looking for God in different places, you can find God in different places. I don’t think God makes cheetos that look like Jesus. I’m not sure he does grilled cheese sandwiches that look like the Virgin Mary. I do know that God reveals himself to us in a lot of different ways.”

Word.

Jesus in ham-and-cheese sandwich

Finally, a story that does not involve ebay. Upon seeing this image, the Nebraskan eater, who was also a heavy drinker, decided to stop drinking and make other changes in his life. Way to not exploit your sandwich!

Holy Christ, Alicia .You kill me!! Your guides make me want to celebrate all of the weirdness that is who we are as humans. Amazing. P.S. I don’t see Jesus in the plants, though. Sorry. But I also can’t see the darn Pirate Ship in those posters like in Mall Rats. There must be some correlation . . .
