Jefferson Park Neighborhood - Denver

No neighborhood guide would be complete without a local grocery store. I generally prefer Vitamin Cottage which is right down on 15th and Platte but when its late, and the fridge is empty this is the spot.

A friend told me a story that Stanley’s used to just be a counter with no actual booze in the customer area, they just handed you a list and went into the back to get your order for you, classy. They have since brought the liquor out front and it qualifies as the neighborhood liquor store of choice.

Apparently the most popular Mexican restaurant in Denver, La Loma is located in a distinctive Denver home that was constructed in 1887. The home accommodates a Cantina with a large fireplace, and three unique dining rooms – The Colonial Room, The Victorian Room and The Galleria are a blend of early American and Southwestern Cultures.

This cozy, kitschy cantina boasts a separate bar area and outdoor patio. The bustling dining room is framed with colorful Mexican art, and packed with a uproarious crowd of chowhounds. Owner-Chef Jack Martinez dishes up fresh, flavorful fare: earthy, piquant and satisfying chili, freshly shucked corn doused with butter and hot sauce, and vaqueros soft corn tacos with shredded beef, barbecue sauce and pico de gallo. Jefferson Park is a neighborhood and public park that overlooks downtown Denver from its perch across Interstate 25 (I-25). Views east from Jefferson Park take in Six Flags Elitch Gardens, The Children’s Museum, Denver’s Downtown Aquarium, Pepsi Center, the REI Flagship Store and other attractions in Downtown’s Central Platte Valley.

Located in the restored 1901 Denver Tramway building, the REI Denver Flagship store is a complete outdoor resource, a historic landmark and an award-winning architectural accomplishment. It’s a great place to shop, explore or grab a coffee in the Starbucks with a view overlooking Confluence Park!

A local bar that feels somewhat pretentious as it draws a young and hipster crowd and the bar staff fit that profile too – somewhat aloof and more interested in looking hip than serving up a drink. Despite that, it has a great atmosphere inside with eclectic decor and people packed in along the bar, on both sides of the long center island and outlying booths.

This well-hidden austere sushi spot is filled with dimly lit pale-wooded tables requiring minimal adornment—save for fresh flowers and chopsticks.

Nice pizza joint with all fresh ingredients and some interesting topping choices. It’s a bit expensive and they don’t have a gluten-free crust option (hint hint) but worth a shot when you are craving a slice!

This coffee shop has been around for seemingly forever, it has a nice atmosphere in the front area and also a sizable back room where you can get some work done if there isn’t a table top D&D game going on.
