Is Apple Bringing Sexy Back?: How to Successfully Create Your iLife.

Apple has introduced us to the next generation of notebooks with the launch of two new Macbooks on October 14. It seems that every year Apple gets a little sexier and sleeker. Haven't made the transition from PC to Mac yet? In case you've been living under a rock, here's what you've been missing.
The iPhone 3G
Not to say that the original iPhone wasn’t impressive, but the 3G sort of blows that out of the water don’t you think?
I’m contemplating switching to AT&T just for pure organizational reasons. How could my life not be more organized with this phone? I’d never miss an appointment, get lost, be out of touch…the possibilities are endless!
iPhone 3G: What's new?
3G Speed: 3G gives you faster access to the Internet and email. This also makes it easier to multi-task. For example, you can browse the web even while on a call.
GPS: Maps with GPS adds a whole new dimension to mobile phone mapping. It makes it possible to find your location, get directions and track your progress…just in case you get off course!
The App Store: This lets you browse various applications and download them to your phone. Most do require a fee, but it allows for customization of your iPhone.
Here’s a great comparison by Jeremy Horwitz, editor of the iLounge
The New iPod Nano
Once again Apple is bringing more customization options to the table with this color scheme. The colors are bold and sexy. The iPod is back to its sleek design instead of the short and stubby look last year’s nano was rocking.
Find your music faster!
I love viewing album art. Some covers are too amazing to ignore. Plus it’s more aesthetically pleasing than a boring blue and white list of songs. Now users can view their album art in Cover Flow.
Shake & Shuffle
In my opinion, this is one of the cooler features of the iPod. (I bet it could get annoying if you’re running – let’s hope there’s a turn off feature!) Just give iPod nano a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library.
Genius!
The Genius feature finds the songs in your music library that go great together and makes a Genius Playlist for you. Now the iPod is in your pants and your mind!
PC vs. Mac
For the longest time I was a PC gal. Only recently have I switched to a Mac. Within a week my PC was unhooked, unplugged and removed from my desk. I’m not sure what it is about the Mac that makes life better. Is it the automatic geek-stamp I get when carrying it around? Maybe it’s the clean, crisp look the white Macbook has. Or perhaps it has something to do with the performance? :) I’ll delve into that in another guide! Of course no one is perfect. There’s quirks and kinks to all technological products out there, but I think with Apple it’s easy to look past them.
If you don’t believe me, try using a friends macbook for a few days – if they can’t part with it, go to an Apple store and play around on one of the many notebooks and desktops they have sitting out. It’s okay to touch, though they frown on drooling.
Compare each notebook with this easy guide and find out which one suits you best.
The New 13-inch Macbook
Weighing in at 4.5lbs, this less than one inch Macbook is the newest addition to the Mac family. Only Apple could make aluminum look sexy!
The New 15-inch Macbook Pro
A wider display, more track room, more aluminum!
Macbook Air
This ultralight, ultrasleek notebook is the epitome of sexy gadgets.
Where to buy
Apple has provided some shopping tips for newcomers:
- Tip 1. Shop early. Shop late. The store tends to be busiest in the middle of the day. Shopping early in the morning or late in the evening helps you avoid the crowds.
- Tip 2. Make an appointment. Test-drive new products and learn all about them by making a Personal Shopping appointment.
- Tip 3. Check out anywhere. When you use your credit card for purchases, any Specialist or Concierge can check you out on the spot.
- Tip 4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you have any questions, speak to a Concierge (in the bright orange shirt). The Concierge, your guide to the Apple Retail Store, will always point you in the right direction.
Apple Goes Green
Got an old computer, iPod, or mobile phone you’re not using anymore? Recycle it with Apple — at no charge. All you have to do is pack up your equipment, print a label, and drop it in the mail. We’ll take care of the rest.
Gazelle makes it easy to buy and sell used electronics. I sold my Verizon EnV for $75. That’s not much compared to what I paid for it, but it was old technology and that’s better than nothing!
She’s got it all! Brains, beauty and she does everything a PC does, just better :)
Even Mr. PC in all of those “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” ads uses Apple. If that’s not a good enough reason I don’t know what is!
