If This Is Love, Why Do I Feel So Insecure?

I'm a clinical psychologist in Nashua, NH, where I've been for over 20 years now. I spend my days doing marriage counseling and individual therapy, from what I'd call a social learning theory, interpersonal, Adlerian-type orientation. A special interest of mine through the years has been exploring the causes and treatments for insecurity, jealousy, possessiveness, "obsession" in romantic love relationships: what I've called "Anxious Romantic Attachment." (A name derived from my speculations, and some early research, on its relationship to earlier life attachment history). I'm co-author of a book on this topic, entitled, "If This Is Love, Why Do I Feel So Insecure?" (Random House, 1990) and am pleased to see that it keeps getting reprinted (currently in its 22nd paperback printing). I guess its a topic area that really doesn't change over the years, at least not in terms of our personal experiences of intimacy and the struggles around it. In fact, sometimes I've encouraged clients to read Ovid's, "The Art of Love," which was written in 600 BC and seems (amusingly) as relevant to the dating and love discussions of the current times! It's hard for me to keep up with all the different social networking and blogging websites, as much as I'm interested in hearing folks thoughts. I do have a Twitter page (DrCarlHindy), and a website (www.hindyassociates.com). If there are occasional articles here on Guidespot on which I might offer a commentary, I welcome folks to forward them to me. Anyway, thanks for reading this far, and I wish you all the best in love and life. Carl Hindy, PhD Clinical Psychologist Nashua NH http://www.hindyassociates.com
