If these neighborhoods could talk

Have a favorite neighborhood in Seattle that you can't get enough of? Scared to venture into another more unknown neighborhood for fear of what you might find? Oddly enough Seattle's most populated neighborhoods each stand for something - which one do you most relate?
Indulge your sweet tooth at Cupcake Royale
Ballard
Ballard is mere minutes from Downtown yet seems so far away. Spend an hour or a day in this humble little neighborhood and you virtually feel as if you’ve slipped away from the craziness of the city.
If you live here: chances are you’ve lived closer to the city but ready to get away, the majority of you are living in beautiful single-family homes that span beyond Market Street. If you’ve moved to Ballard it’s probably because you’ve become ready to settle down.
Like to play in Ballard? You definitely like to get away from the frequented hotspots of other neighborhoods, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t know how to get down. The typical scene here is a combination of college grads with 20 and 30- somethings looking to enjoy a brew and some great tunes.
I recommend: Brunch at Hi-Life, shopping at Blackbird, cupcakes and coffee at Cupcake Royale, enjoying the Ballard Locks, dinner at Volterra, and drinks at the Matador (or skee-ball at King’s Hardware).

The Chapel on Capital Hill – home to delicious drinks such as The Milkman’s Daughter and Debbie Does Dallas.
Capitol Hill
Capitol Hill: the salad bowl of the city. It comes as no surprise if you find yourself enjoying the likes of the Hill. Anyone and everyone has something they enjoy about this neighborhood.
If you live or play here: Capitol Hill welcomes any walk of life. Nowhere else in the city can anybody walk through the neighborhood and stumble upon the “Cheers” of their life. Everyone goes to the Hill for action, if you’re looking for an all around good time, Capitol Hill is surely never to disappoint.
I recommend: Cafe Presse for anytime of the day, coffee at Bauhaus, shopping at Le Frock, dinner at La Spiga, drinks at Chapel.
Cap to the Hill
Not willing to trust me? Check out Cap to the Hill for an additional inside perspective.
Spend your sundays at the Fremont market – you’ll never know what you might find.
Welcome to the Center of the Universe. Home to nudity and nonsense, Fremont makes for yet another escape from downtown without leaving the urban feel.
If you live or play in Fremont: probably a soon-to-be OR recent college grad making your way into the working world just like the rest of us. If that doesn’t sound like you, then you’re more of the outdoorsy type that looks forward to finding delicious finds at the sunday market and have traded in your bus pass for a bicycle.
I recommend: experiencing the views from Gasworks Park, shopping the sunday market, sushi at Blu-C, shopping at Ian, and beer at the Red Door.

Located in the shadow of the Space Needle, Queen Anne is primarily residential. Mixed with swanky condos, million dollar mansions, and quasi affordable apartments, Queen Anne is truly the neighborhood which feels secluded but yet in the heart of the action.
If you live here: You love the action of downtown without the necessary crazies that come with it. From millionaires to barely making the rent, there are no specific “types” living in Queen Anne.
If Queen Anne is where you play: chances are you’re into experiencing art and delicious dining. You could also be bored with the gold diggers of downtown and the college kids of Fremont, so you’ve found your niche in-between.
I recommend: Brunch at Pesos, a show at the PNB, shopping at Easy Street Records, dinner at Via Tribunali, drinks at the Sitting Room.

Pesos’s truly has some of Seattle’s best nachos. Also, their apple-pear sangria is truly something that can’t be passed up.

Belltown: the next best thing to downtown, if Seattle were to actually have a “true” downtown. It wasn’t until the early 90s that this neighborhood had transformed itself from crack parks to swanky condos (have no fear, Belltown hasn’t forgotten it’s humble beginnings and holds tribute to that at the Denny Dog Park).
If Belltown is home: you must be new. Nobody in their right mind enjoys shitting where they eat.
Is Belltown your place to play? You’re more than likely the type of person wanting to “see and be seen,” a gold digging 20 something looking for sugar, or the 30-40 plus rich guys overcompensating for those days you were bullied on the playground.
I recommend: Breakfast at Macrina Bakery, shopping at Polite Society, enjoying Olympic Sculpture Park, getting a massage and a haircut at Stylus, dinner at Umi Sake House, drinks at See Sound Lounge.

Pamper yourself here with a massage, facial, mani, pedi, the list goes on. If you’re in the market for a haircut, you HAVE to go to Jacque who is truly fabulous.

Check out the newly remodeled Seattle Art Museum for a dose of culture.
Guidespot: Become a cliched Seattleite
In case you’re feeling touristy…
Downtown
Many can agree that Seattle doesn’t have much of a downtown. With boundaries blurred in all directions it’s hard to know just where downtown comes and goes.
With all of about 3 condos downtown, you’re incredibly fortunate if you own a slice of real estate heaven, providing the opportunity to live downtown.
If you like to play downtown, you’re one of the types to hang out at some of the fantastic apres-work watering holes for the upwardly mobile. Clearly, downtown is the place to be for Happy Hour – good luck if you snag a table at one of the many restaurants in the area.
I recommend: Shopping at Barneys, Marios, and Nordstrom, lunch in the market, a trip to the Art Museum, drinks at Barolo, and dinner at Wild Ginger.
Party in Pioneer Square
From culture to trash, you’re bound to find it in the square.
Pioneer Square is truly a very unique, rough and tumbled neighborhood. Surrounded by the stadiums, the water, and a world of galleries, Pioneer Square is definitely one of the cities more eclectic neighborhoods.
Living in Pioneer Square: you’re experiencing the epitomy of “city sheik.” In your fabulous upscale loft, you’re clearly living in the Square for the real estate and not the actual neighborhood.
Do you play in the Square? You must be from out of town. Home to some of the trashiest clubs in town (bullet proof vest optional), finding style and class is not a priority for the neighborhood. Admittedly, if you ARE from the city and looking for an excuse to get blacked out drunk and possibly make out with a country bumpkin, Pioneer Square could be the perfect place for you.
I recommend: strolling through the square experiencing the many art galleries, chocolate chip cookies from Cow Chip, pub food at Pyramid Ale House, and a trashy night at Cowgirls and Last Supper Club

Are you looking to get fresh with someone clearly not from Seattle? You’ve come to the right place.

You better be going to UW if you’re spending a considerable amount of time in this neighborhood. While it may be home to a beautiful college campus, fantastic (and cheap) pho and thai restaurants, and of course some great shopping, the U District is not intended for non- or post- grads.
You can play, but you really shouldn’t stay. If you live in the U District: You’re either one of the thousands going to school, or desperate to find incredibly cheap (and possibly dangerous) housing.
If you do spend time playing here: you’re either still living off of your parents dime or you really can’t get past your glories days of college.
I recommend: enjoying the Quad during the spring, bubble tea and pho on the ave, vintage shopping at Buffalo Exchange.
