I hate moving with a passion. I love my neighborhood with an equal passion. Therefore, I have no need to move and haven't in the last 3 years. But sometimes when I'm wandering around Boston, I can't help but think "What if..."
Boston has so many fabulous neighborhoods and there are many I would absolutely love to live in. Whether it's for the shopping, restaurants, or atmosphere in general, I'd really like to move to various Boston neighborhoods. But is it enough to convince me to get out of Brookline?
I would probably live in the South End right this moment if I made, oh, a couple more hundred thousand dollars than I currently am. I think it’s the cutest part of the city and all the brownstones are adorable. Plus, the South End is home to some of Boston’s best restaurants and also has tons of cute little gift shops. My little personal heaven! It’s also ridiculously expensive to live in and not too fabulously located, with lacking public transportation. Which means I would need a car. Which means I would need even more money. Sigh.

South End Open Market
The South End Open Market is one very good reason to move to the South End. Every Sunday during the warm weather months, people fill in a parking lot, selling their homemade jewelry, artwork, baked goods, etc., etc. etc.
If I lived in the South End, I would definitely go to the South End Open Market every Sunday just to check out what’s going on. As for now, I live pretty far away and it’s a pain to get to. Boo hoo.
OK Let’s face it. If I lived in the South End, I probably wouldn’t be frequenting Mistral any more than I do now, since it would cost me a little thing called money, which I don’t so much have. However, it would be fun just to have this in my neighborhood. And maybe I could just hang out in front and wait for someone to feel sorry for me and invite me to dinner. There’s a possibility, right?
Anyway, Mistral has an absolutely glorious menu and I would eat here every night if I could.

I love love love the menu at Masa and seriously want to try everything. If I lived in the South End, maybe I would. Well, I would at least be at the bar every day after work because they have an amazingly cheap bar happy hour menu that involved lots of $1 tapas. The South End is getting more and more tempting.

Motley is one of my favorite gift shops in the world and it’s located right in the South End. It has absolutely adorable gifts, including lots of cute t-shirts. But I absolutely love Motley’s retro sports-wear, including their old-school Patriots, Bruins, and Red Sox sweatshirts.

Basically one of my favorite places in all of the Boston area. Berryline features REAL yogurt (real meaning it’s low-cal and fat free, woot!) with tons of awesomely fun toppings. I love putting lots of fresh fruit on top of mine to make it a sweet and semi-healthy dessert, but Berryline also has lots of fun candy and cereal topping choices.
If I lived in Harvard Square, I’d probably need to get a Berryline credit card or something. I’d be here every night. Even in the winter.

Z-Square
Z-Square is totally one of those places I would be hanging out in every afternoon if I lived in Harvard Square. I just think the atmosphere is so cute (plus there’s a bar downstairs!) and the food is delicious. Tons of crepes (which I loveee) and other sandwiches and salads. I’d also be here every night, hanging out and sipping hot chocolate. Or drinking beer downstairs. Either way.
You don’t have to be a Harvard student to love the Harvard Coop. It’s basically just a huge, fun book store, that happens to have some Harvard apparel and lots of smart people walking around as well. I could most likely spend all day getting lost in here.

Pretty looking AND smelly soaps, lotions, gels and more? Sounds like my kind of place. And Lush has them all. Something tells me that if I lived near Lush in Harvard Square, I’d be wandering in a little too much and making a few too many “beauty and pampering” purchases!

Ew, who would want to live in Jamaica Plain?? That’s what most people think and what I thought until I actually went a few months ago. Though many areas of JP are rough, the downtown Centre St. area is adorable with tons of cute restaurants. I could definitely see myself with an apartment on Centre St. I might not stray too far from that street, but I could be just fine with that.

I wandered into Purple Cactus with my friend on a random day when I wasn’t even hungry. We just wanted to check it out. One burrito later and we were in love. We had their special of the day burrito, which involved chicken sausage and goat cheese. Um, yum? Now I want to go back and try everything! So much better than the Anna’s Taqueria I live by!

J.P. Licks. One of the reasons I love my neighborhood so much is that I live nice and close to a J.P. Licks. But if I moved to Jamaica Plain, I would still be nice and close to one, the original one (get it? J.P. Jamaica Plain??)! Plus, this location is where J.P. Licks roasts all their coffee and makes their ice cream. Even better than the one in Brookline!!

Christmas in JP
Apparently Christmas in Jamaica Plain is a pretty splendid affair. OK, I could live with that.
I’ve never been to Wonder Spice Cafe, but every time I walk by, I stare at it in wonder. I don’t know much about Cambodian food, but if it’s anything like Thai and Vietnamese, then I’m fairly certain I’d love it. And I’d enjoy living close enough to wander into Wonder Spice at anytime I choose.

I’d be totally cool living in the Back Bay of Boston, especially right in between Newbury and Boylston Streets. Once again, I’d need to add a few more bucks to my salary as, not only is the real estate here extremely expensive, but the shopping is just way too good and I’d probably get a bit out of control.

Newbury Street
So many fabulous shops and restaurants on Newbury St., I’d be in BIG trouble. But I’d love every moment of it (besides the debt part).
I’m also a big fan of Central Square and would consider moving here. Mostly because I’d love to live by Toscanni’s, Middle East, Tavern on the Square, and Rodney’s Bookstore. I think I could get used to this cute little Cambridge Square.

Oh hi, just what I need. More ideas on what to do if I’m rich! Besides moving to one of these lovely neighborhoods, here’s what else you could do if you had some more cash flow coming your way.
If I were to move in Boston
When it does come time for me to make my move in Boston (AKA when my wallet is fatter) at least I know I have plenty of options I’m absolutely in love with. The big decision would be way incredibly tough though….these neighborhoods are just so fabulous!
