Real estate in Beacon Hill is known for being incredibly expensive. If I wanted to move there, not only would I need to be able to afford an apartment, I'd also have to be able to afford to be constantly eating out and shopping in Beacon Hill. There's so much to do and way too much to eat in this little Boston area. While many of my favorite spots are pretty pricey, Beacon Hill also has some great hole-in-the-wall spots and some fabulous deals!
Ma Soba
Definitely my go-to for sushi, Ma Soba is surprisingly not very expensive considering it’s a sushi restaurant in Beacon Hill. In fact, they have some amazingly good specials like the combination deals.
I always find the sushi to be delightfully fresh. Try to sit by the windows at Ma Soba. In the summer they open them up and you can eat your sushi while looking right onto Cambridge St.
There’s also an Artu in the North End, but I much prefer Beacon Hills because it’s tucked away in a little basement on Charles St. I love walking by Artu because there are also dishes of the most beautiful, vibrantly colored vegetables sitting in the windows. Gets me every time.
The pasta dishes here are amazing. And make you realized you don’t have to make the long walk (OK, so it’s a 20 minute walk) to the North End for the best Italian. Go in the winter and sit by the fire so you can warm up in this tiny little restaurant.
I’ve only been to the Beacon Hill Bistro once, but since I went, I’ve been dying to go back. BHB is gourmet food in a fabulous bistro atmosphere. I hate when I walk by the restaurant, I can’t properly see in the windows, but that is a very good thing when you’re actually inside eating. Without a doubt, you must order the escargot if you go the the Beacon Hill Bistro. It was absolutely heaven!
I just really, really love the lunches at Cafe Podima. They have delicioud stuffed sandwiches and panninis with just about everything you can think of inside. But really, my favorite thing about Podima is the ridiculously extensive frozen yogurt menu. Podima is perfect for late-night fro-yo and they also make a fantastic milkshake.
And all of the employees at Podima are wicked friendly and incredibly fast!
I just love little independent markets because I love wandering them and checking out the cool selection of goods. Deluca’s has an awesome meat and fish counter, a yummy cheese selection, plus tons of fresh produce. I mostly love Deluca’s because it just feels to me like what Beacon Hill should feel like.
Obsessed. Antonio’s is another spot where you realize you can stay right in Beacon Hill to get amazing Italian food. Not to mention, this place is SO inexpensive (especially at lunch, amazing lunch deals!). It’s really tiny inside so you might have to wait if you don’t get there early, but feels so authentic with the bustling, over-friendly Italian waiters.
I’ve been here many, many times and have never had a meal I was unhappy about. You really need to get the caesar salad before your meal; it’s one of the best I’ve had. You will become obsessed with Antonio’s too. Oh, and the wine is pretty cheap!
Awww, he makes Beacon Hill sound so appealing. That’s because it is! If you’ve never visited Beacon Hill, check out this video to see just how pretty it is!
Moxie
What would Beacon Hill be without its fabulous shops. Moxie is one of the best and once you enter it, you’ll see why. Do you like shoes? Purses? Jewelry? If you’re answering yes, yes, yes, then you will fall in love with Moxie!
Not only is it an incredibly cute little shoe shop, it carries some of the best designers around, such as BCBG, Tory Burch, Rafe, and tons more. I would love to walk around Beacon Hill wearing a pair of new shoes I just picked up from Moxie. Sigh.
Wish. Oh, how I wish I could afford to buy every single thing in Wish. This store is absolutely adorable and I would love to dress myself in a different dress from Wish everyday.
Unfortunately, the store is extremely expensive, but that’s only because they carry the best of the best when it comes to designer clothes. I’ve been in a lot of designer shops before and really believe Wish has one of the best selections around.
I’ve had many a fun night at The Hill Tavern located right on Cambridge St. It’s a great weeknight bar spot, especially when you want something low-key, but not trashy or gross. The crowd is usually pretty mixed but generally a good group of people. The bartender is super nice and the drinks aren’t over-priced.
And if you get hungry, the food is good! I would recommend The Hill for lunch or even a quick dinner before a game at the Garden.
Primo’s is another “I can’t believe this little hole in the wall” is located in Beacon Hill. But it’s such a great spot for sandwiches, salads, and pizzas (though I’m not a fan of the thick crust on their pizzas!). I do highly recommend Primos’ Greek salad, cheeseburger, grilled cheese, and onion rings. It’s all a bit greasy, but it wouldn’t be quite right if it wasn’t!
I’m not saying it’s necessarily good, but it’s open late night, it’s greasy pizza, and it always satisfies that craving. Venice’s pastas aren’t too bad either, but you probably won’t really want to enter the shop during daylight hours. Someone might, gasp, see you!
And what would a rich, ritzy neighborhood be without a Whole Foods? That’s what I thought. Thank Goodness Beacon Hill decided to build one about 3 years ago. The place is crazy busy and way over-priced but the meats, fishes, and produce are so, so good. Oh and I almost forgot (not really though) the bakery. Just go and stare at the pastry counter for a bit and then try anything because I guarantee you’ll like it. Trust me, I think I already have tried everything!
