After spending a long weekend in San Francisco I have realized that I wouldn't mind changing locales to call the Bay Area home. I've listed a few of the reasons I've fallen in love, but Emerald Dandy wants to know: Why do YOU love San Francisco?
That shirt is HOW much?!
Designer Heaven! Well, in comparison to Seattle it’s truly heaven. From pricepoints and designers ranging from high to low, this city has it all (read: San Fran has MORE than plaid and birkenstocks!)
I personally loved the gem that was shown to me on Haight Street known as The Wasteland. I managed to score myself two fabulous finds: a pair of Versace AND a pair of Karl Lagerfeld trouser pants, for less than $50 total!!
Mmmm, alcohol!
The Nightlife in San Fran was always on point. I love being able to go from one neighborhood to the next with something going on any night of the week. I personally enjoyed my time at Rye on Geary & Leavenworth (among many other places) – the music was bumpin, and the location was even better (read: walking distance to hotels). I’d try to get there early (prefunk beforehand, drinks aren’t cheap) so you can be one of the lucky few who manage to score a table.
The perfect people watching opportunity - the MUNI
I’m obsessed with the Muni! Call me crazy, but the light rail lines running through the city are such a fantastic way to make your way around. Not to mention, the F Train running between the Castro and Fisherman’s Wharf is a true experience getting from Point A to Point B.
Check out Elissa’s guide on how to properly ride the MUNI – it’s not as hard as you really think.
For the more sophisticated lush - Wine Country
Okay, okay, so Wine Country isn’t technically IN San Francisco, but a quick 30 minute trip and your amidst the vineyards getting tipsy off the latest reds and whites. Pictured above is Ledson Winery (talk about a great wedding location), and nothing is more relaxing than sampling wines in the sunshine… except breaking into one of the many nearby resorts to take a nice long dip in one of the fantastic swimming pools.
Of all the wineries in Napa and Sonoma I recommend Ledson for many reasons. The ambience is amazing, the wine is truly fantastic (of all the wineries I visited, there wasn’t a single wine that disappointed), and with limited distribution you can’t find these wines anywhere else!
Maybe it’s for the best that I don’t live in San Fran; you know where you’d be finding me on my days off.
Wait, I thought I was in Chinatown...
I love all of the various neighborhoods in San Fran just dying to be visited. Little Italy was one of my favorites primarily due to the amount of Mom & Pop Italian Restaurants which line the street.
Just a quick walk between Downtown and the Wharf, I find Little Italy to be the perfect date place. Now if only I had a date… any takers?
How to avoid the rain while exploring such a beautiful city
Vertigo!
I love this movie – I truly have never gotten tired of it. I essentially grew up with this vision of San Francisco based off of this movie, and though this movie is nearly 50 years old San Francisco still holds the same amount of glamour as it did back then.
Hungry? You better be!
If you’re a foodie than San Francisco is definitely the place for you! Though I was only there for a few short days, I was introduced to some truly wonderful places.
Of all the places I visited, NOPA was truly a place worthy of note. Located on Haight and Divisadero, NOPA literally fills up within minutes of opening. The menu changes frequently, the drinks are crafty (and stiff, I’m beginning to notice a trend in this city..), and you definitely feel like somebody special dining here. I will surely plan on visiting the next time I’m in town.
Still feeling hungry?
I’d be silly to not stress how many wonderful food choices there are in San Fran. Crepevine – a crepe restaurant located on Filmore Street, is a delectable gem waiting to be discovered! I found this place while wandering through the neighborhood on my last visit and couldn’t resist coming back for more. Whether you prefer savory or sweet, Crepevine’s crafty concoctions are perfect for a noontime snack.
The Architecture
I’ve always grown up paying attention to Architecture and San Francisco surely does not disappoint. From the fabulous row houses and old apartments to the landmarks of the city, something is bound to spark your interest. After all, who wants to live in a city filled with atrocious buildings?
San Fran has some beautiful parks, you’d be crazy not to spend some time at one of them!
The Views
Be it the Golden Gate, Alcatraz, Twin Peaks, or Coit Tower, the views in San Francisco are truly stunning. Being a very visual person myself, I can never get tired of all of the beautiful sights of this city.
