Mostly it costs less to buy more expensive gas that is closer.
Lots of people will drive far out of the way to get gas that is one cent cheaper. For a ten gallon tank, this will save you 10 cents, and for a twenty gallon tank, this will save you 20 cents. Driving one mile costs you 27 cents at 15m/g, 20 cents at 20m/g, 16 cents at 25m/g, 13 cents at 30m/g, and 10 cents at 40m/g. In many cases, this means you will spend more gas going to get the cheap gas than you will save on the fill up.

One that sparked my interest is regarding gas wasted idling your engine. Most sources state that you waste from half a gallon to 1 gallon of gas per hour idling your engine. And that you use about the same amount of gas idling your engine for 10 to 30 seconds as you use to restart your car. Just don’t turn your car off while in traffic.
