Is a Residential Facility Preferred over Outpatient?
Effective drug rehabilitation can be achieved through both residential and outpatient treatment. This depends, of course, on the severity of a client’s condition. Up to 90 percent of addicts each year attend outpatient counseling and meetings, but longer residential rehab programs usually yield better results.
Though outpatient treatment is successful for less severe cases, a longer term of more than 30 days is recommended to address all biophysical and emotional aspects of the clients’ addiction and reduce relapse possibilities.
Addiction Treatment and Dual Diagnosis
To ensure total recovery, a client must achieve a level of healing that encompasses the body, mind, and spirit. The treatment needs to address their physical and mental rehabilitation, as well as their emotional stability, so that they may be able to resume a normal life.
Dual Diagnosis treatment looks beyond the addiction itself and treats for other mental conditions that may coexist with a person’s addiction problem, such as depression and anxiety. Effective Dual Diagnosis therapy focuses on the treatment of the clients’ emotional and mental issues. The therapy targets the whole person rather than the addiction or the mental disorder which most programs treat separately.

• Is long-term aftercare support and/or guidance encouraged, provided and maintained?
