So you lost your job. Did your cat throw up in your shoe again? Did your boyfriend really forget your birthday? Did he dump you on your birthday? Looks like you're having a bad day. This too shall pass, my friend. Here are a few things that make me happy when I am feeling pretty blue.

The Endorphin Rush

The most effective way of beating the blues is a bit of good ‘ole exercise.  It not only makes you feel good, but it’s good for you too.  Get your blood pumpin and get your smile on.  It’s the best way to feel better and it makes your butt look better.

Kickboxing. Have you ever wanted to punch someone’s lights out but your proper upbringing held you back? Kickboxing is the answer to your prayers. Slide your hand into the mitts and get ready to picture your ex’s face on the bag as you punch away til your heart’s content. This is a great workout for the whole body and you leave feeling less annoyed, but more powerful. It’s a no brainer!

The Sugar Fix

Admittedly not as healthy as exercise, sugar still makes you feel better for a while. Here are some of my favorite places to get my sugar high.

The Shoppe

3103 E COLFAX AVE DENVER, CO 80206

Have you heard about this place yet? Cupcakes. Glorious little single servings of scrumptious cake with homemade frosting come in a variety of flavors at this cozy store. Wash one down with a glass of milk and it almost feels like you’re sitting in the kitchen at your mom’s house. Nothing beats a good cupcake. They just make you smile.

Lose Yourself

Sometimes you are so down in the dumps, you just want to forget about everything. Why not lose yourself for a bit?

Twist & Shout

300 E Alameda Ave Unit B, Denver, CO 80209

Lose yourself in the music. Eminem was right, man. I love coming to Twist and Shout and perusing the aisles for a couple of hours, serarching for a new artist to bang my head to, or an old favorite with a new European release. I can also mingle with the cool kids who know way more than you do about music. More knowledge for my big brain. I walk out with a skip in my step and a new cd in my hot little hand.

Tattered Cover Bookstore

2526 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80206

Why,yes, it is. The best book store ever. I can get lost for hours in here and not spend a dime if I don’t want to. Practically impossible however, because I find so many cool pages of knowledge to fill my big brain full of decorating ideas and images, tips for investing my savings and romance novels to really remind myself how much of a girl I am. They’ve got a little bit of everything and it’s a Denver favorite…and rightfully so.

Seasons Mind and Body Fitness

2700 ARAPAHOE ST DENVER, CO 80205

Spinning is hard core and will make you sweat out any tears you thought you thought you had left in you. At this class, the music pumps loudly as you spin your legs to the beat and the command of your teacher. If this doesn’t make you feel like you accomplished a huge feat, nothing will.

Gelazzi

1411 Larimer St, Denver, CO 80202

Why did it take me almost 30 years to discover Gelatto? this super creamy and smooth ice cream like dessert is the bomb. Gelazzi has tons of ridiculously sinful flavors to tempt your taste buds. It may be a cold treat, but it leaves you feeling warm all over.

Toffee, oh toffee. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
1. Crunchy
2. Sweet
3. Salty
Added together, these three tastes make up one spectacular sweet taste that reminds me of holidays past. One piece is all I need to bring back happy thoughts.

Mayan Theater

110 Broadway, Denver, CO 80203

Whenever I’m having a bad day, I want to catch a movie to forget about everything for a while. The Mayan is one of my favorite theaters in Denver because of it’s history. The old architecture keeps my eyes entertained before previews and the Indie films keep me culturally stimulated. Ciao, baby.
